Apples and oranges again.  I am not talking about your "facts" (I won't shout them as you do) that you keep posting.  I accept them, but they are cold dead numbers.

I'm talking about the percentage of available women within the target age range of 21-35

I've stated why I think women in that age group in the FSU are more interested in marriage than men in that same age group, and how that impacts the 1-to-1 ratio.    It's my opinion.  I have stated what I see and how I arrived at my opinion.

Common respect holds that one should accept someone else's opinion instead of changing the argument to something that they are not arguing about.

Yes.

And if you look at the title of the post I responded to - in point of fact, was DRAWN into, that topic and that post explicitly address the "Stats" and claims "they just don't make sense."

I daresay it was not me who is responsible for "changing the argument to something they are not arguing about."

You may well be correct. If your conclusion is the reason for that is because of gender disparity in the FSU, I submit you have drawn a fallacious conclusion.

Dan is, indeed, providing statistics that state, unequivocally, the male female ratios in the FSU are roughly 1 to 1.

Again, the ease in dating in Russia has nothing to do with the absolute numbers of men and women (unless you are looking for a woman in her sixties). The argument is about the number of women who are frustrated in Russia because they have not been able to find a man to date, let alone marry. It is a question of the supply of MEN WOMEN WANT TO MARRY.

I will use a personal example. My wife has a friend who is now living in Moscow. A very cute blonde in her late twenties with a great personality. She has been there for a few years. Has she been able to find a husband? No. Best she could do is find a married man from Moldavia as a lover. If she could find a decent man to date and marry, she would. However, she hasn't found any candidates.

Let's look at my sister-in-law. Her ex-husband is now in jail and the other men she dated in the words of my mother-in-law were alcoholics. I met one of them once, he was in his mid-thirties and the alcohol had clearly taken its toll. You could see that he had been an attractive man, but the alcohol had taken that away from him. He was living with his mother and spending whatever he earned on drinking. My sister-in-law has her faults, but she works hard and does her best to raise her children.

Again, the discrepancy has nothing to do with the absolute number of men and women, rather it is a question of the available numbers of men that women would want to marry. A lot of women prefer to stay single rather than marry the options available to them.

Well, I now see what this forum is all about. I started this thread to have a civilized discussion on the subject that was curious to me. Next thing I'm getting attacked and accused like before. When 2 of the prominent members stand up and say that they agree with me and it looks like the "let's trash Ed" routine is not working out, the whole thread gets rearranged and posts removed. Wow. I am disgusted. This is censorship at it's best! or worst! Both! This happened in my last thread about the subject. As soon as some people sided with me, posts were removed and the thread locked right after some nasty accusations. When I posted the reply to that in the new thread, it was immediately removed. This is total BS. There were no violations of TOS here in this thread, nothing. 3 people just happened not to agree with Dan's opinion. Truly SAD.
This post will probably also get removed. I will not get into another discussion with Dan because this is not a plain field. This is his domain and he rules it as he sees fit.
I will think hard about being a part of this forum. Right now I'm too disgusted with it to even think straight.
I've met some beautiful and very bright people here: Simoni - a great, honest, smart, talented individual who is not afraid to stand up for what he believes is right. Blues Fairy - beautiful inside and out...beautiful mind! Incredibly smart, intelligent young lady! Lily - such a sweet young lady who wants to find her happiness in life, Gabaub - a man who actually learned Russian, one of the more difficult languages in the world!
Catman - a truly nice man who dreams of having a loving family one day and we are getting very close to that day! And a few others who chose to remain incognito because they didn't want to get on he "Black list" just for agreeing with me or associating with me. Hopefully some of you will get to read this post before it gets removed!
sincerely,
Ed

>>the whole thread gets rearranged and posts removed.<<

Wrong.

I consolidated the topic. Not a single post was removed. Since this was a logical extension to your earlier post on the same topic, I did not see any reason for there to be two separate topics clogging the board.

>>3 people just happened not to agree with Dan's opinion<<

WRONG again.

I did not, and do not, demand that anyone agree with my opinion - far from it. I will, however, step in with my own opinion - or with OBJECTIVE FACTS - when I see someone spouting something I know to be untrue.

>>This happened in my last thread about the subject. As soon as some people sided with me, posts were removed and the thread locked right after some nasty accusations.<<

WRONG one more time. In the previous topic - still on the board for all to read - there was one member who stepped in with an off-topic post that attacked another member. That one post was removed. No others.

>>Right now I'm too disgusted with it to even think straight.<<

You have my concurrence on the outcome, though the reasons for it are not entirely clear to me.

just like it was useless arguing politics in the Soviet Union - you were always WRONG if you disagreed with any official policy, myth or legend I think it is useless to argue with the admin of RWD. He is in control of the information people see and can change it, rearrange it or remove things as he sees fit. It's a no-win situation. There is no freedom of speech here even if you are compliant with TOS. That goes to show you that it's not a Soviet or American thing. It's a human thing and some people will do anything to stay in power, in control just to promote their philosophy or ideas. They will do anything to suppress any decent.

I'm sure a lot of single average income RM are wondering where are the good women are at worth marrying. For some reason many RW don't think many RM make enough money to be marriage material. If the average RM made as much money as the average Western man, the so called "shortage of good RM" will go away.

If Eduard admits the 1 to 1 ratio, he will earn more people's respect instead of suspicions  of touting his past and recent numbers to gain customers. If he wants to tell his customers that they, as a foreigner, will attract more RW than a RM based on RW's sincere and insincere reasons, that would be reasonable.

I'm sure in mining towns and military bases the men are complaining that there aren't enough women to go around and women are complaining there aren't enough men in towns that are producing textiles.  But we are not talking specific regions here but the whole FSU on average.

I know some people aren't interested in statistics and I know finding a wife isn't as important as self preservation when walking through a mine field but if you had two choices to make, wouldn't you choose to walk in the mine field that most people survive walking through? Point is statistics are important to factor in what you do. Governments, universities and businesses understand the value of what happening to the general population and what they want. Statistics may not be important on how you run your life but it's valuable to others on how they run you.

As far as the CIA website statistics, they have better things to do than collect this stuff and let the pros do it such as university professors and various organizations. One can check online for other resources and find little or no difference.

Personally I feel men and women come in "bad" in equal amounts. I know some wrote how many RM were in jail or the amount of alcoholics but some women are pure bitches and can drive most men to drink. They can also rob men on a routine basis without actually committing a crime and going to jail for it. RM shouldn't get all the blame for the high divorce rate in the FSU or get the lion's share of credit for the bad seeds in their society.

Fund the audits, spread the word and educate people, write your politicians and other elected officials. Stay active in the fight to save our country. Over 220 generals and admirals say we are in a fight for our survival like no other time since 1776.

Sheez. Another apopletic rage robbing the author of whatever rational reasoning power they may have once possessed.

Allow me to play it all back for you.

Step 1. You wrote, on your site, the following:

Quote
The only reason that they [RW] are single and looking is because of those statistics - 1 guy for every 8 girls!

Do you deny that Eduard?

That was on page 19 of a 30-page topic.

You were then presented with a preponderance of evidence to contradict that claim.

Step 2. In an entirely separate topic, you came back to this issue, and started defending your claims once again. That posted message may be found (YES! still on the board!), here -- http://www.russianwomendiscussion.com/index.php?topic=5967.msg124047#msg124047

Since you were obviously still hung-up on the stats issue, that eventually had to be cut out of that topic, and placed as the opening post in THIS very topic.

Step 3. Then, still not sated, you posted this topic -- http://www.russianwomendiscussion.com/index.php?topic=7513.msg133924#msg133924 - which was moved, and merged, with THIS topic (starting on Page 7 -- http://www.russianwomendiscussion.com/index.php?topic=6852.msg131672#msg131672).

Step 4. Finally, on Page 11 (http://www.russianwomendiscussion.com/index.php?topic=6852.msg133813#msg133813) you decide to address me by accusing me of having some special alliance with the Russian Federal Authorities in publication of bogus statistics, and we have the makings of yet another runaway freight train.

Now, you have the audacity of accusing me of Soviet like tactics, and of censorship that NEVER OCCURRED. While I have been VERY restrained to this point - you are now at the limit of my patience.

The simple FACTS are these:

* YOU made a ridiculous, outrageous claim, and have been reeling from the effects of it ever since.
* YOU have been provided, indeed encouraged, to gracefully acknowledge the mistake and move on - and you apparently cannot, as evidenced by your repeated posts to draw RWD, and me, into a tired old argument.
* I am not terribly interested in convincing you of anything Eduard, hence, am not going to engage in a tit-for-tat response. On many occasions, that results in my not offering the broader context of a reply - but you get the essentials, with my knowing full-well it will make no difference to YOU. I offer it for the benefit of others.
* YOU have had plenty of opportunity to make your point - and the "dingos" have challenged you, appropriately, when you make claims that are unfounded and self-serving.
* For anyone wishing to read through approximately 700 50 pages (which is the pages you have consumed with this 'debate'), they are certain to see your perspectives, as well as numerous citations to statistical sources. My guess is they will be able to draw their own conclusions - about the issues, and about the authors of the claims.

Eduard,
I don't have much invested in this thread one way or another.  In fact I made an earlier post in support of your ideas.  From my point of view it is a rather basic challenge that Dan put in front of you many many months ago:
You originally stated:
Quote
The only reason that they [RW] are single and looking is because of those statistics - 1 guy for every 8 girls!

In all of your posts you have yet to provide any factual evidence to support this claim.  Please note that there are no qualifiers in your statement as to the mind set or quality of the women vs. the men.  Just 8 women to every man.

In contrast, Dan has supplied 3 or 4 reputable sources stating the facts of the matter is that there is one woman for every man.  I am sorry you are not convinced, but that is what the facts say and until you can provide some factual support to validate your claim, you appear to be in error here.

I know that you and others have tried to add qualifiers to the claim and have basically changed your position from the original form.  But you still have no factual support of your claims.  All the guessing, opinions, personal experiences that tend to support your way of thinking are not factual evidence that it is true. There is no need for you to continue to be upset that many here will never accept your statement as true until you can provide the factual evidence to support it.  Until you do so, it is only a myth or an urban legend.

Ken, the factual evidence is right there on your avatar. please don't missunderstand me, I'm not criticizing you in any way. I did the same thing - married a beautiful young , yet down to earth and family oriented young woman 20 years my junior. Why did we go to the FSU to find these women? I think the answer is obvious.
I'm not going to engage in any more arguments on this subject because my posts have been removed, rearranged, deleted, basically censored. I also was never allowed to post a response to where some real nasty accusations were thrown at me. I'm not going to respond to Dan's posts anymore because when I give logical explanation he only sees what he wants to see and dismisses or deletes what doesn't fit his idea of truth. I'm extremely disappointed and disillusioned with this forum...well not the whole forum but with the man in control of it.
I was going to post some neat information on Russian Orthodox Easter coming up, but I won't. Too disgusted with the situation right now.

I'm sure a lot of single average income RM are wondering where are the good women are at worth marrying.

Well, the high status men that I know in Russia are not wondering where the women are. They have wives and lovers on the side. The ones that are wondering are the ones that drink too much, gamble too much, or womanize too much. My MIL kicked out my SIL last boyfriend because of drinking. One night, when too drunk, he ended up breaking a window in a middle of the night. My MIL told him to leave and never come back.

Quote
I'm sure in mining towns and military bases the men are complaining that there aren't enough women to go around and women are complaining there aren't enough men in towns that are producing textiles.  But we are not talking specific regions here but the whole FSU on average.

This is true. I know of one Russian village that has a surplus of young men looking for wives. The problem is that the young women from their village have left to go to the city. The young men can't pack up and leave for a number of reasons. It is still part of the same phenomenon: there is a mismatch between what the women are looking for in a potential husband, and what the men are offering. If more young women from the villages wanted to stay in their villages to milk cows and work in the fields, then there would be fewer women in the regional cities complaining about the lack of eligible men. So what was bad for the young Russian men in the villages, was very good for me. What can I say, life is not fair

You are losing me with your metaphor. What exactly is the minefield? To be honest, I found dating in Russia very easy. It helps that I speak the language. Finding good women interested in me was not a problem. I could easily recognize those women that were not worth the effort. It was dating in Canada that was hard.

Quote
Personally I feel men and women come in "bad" in equal amounts. I know some wrote how many RM were in jail or the amount of alcoholics but some women are pure bitches and can drive most men to drink.

Well, it is a bit more complicated than that. I am friends with a wonderful woman and her family. She divorced her husband because while she was in the hospital he started womanizing and drinking. He ended up selling their apartment, buying a vehicle that he then crashed while drunk. She had to start anew from scratch. She worked to support her children and start a small business. She is not doing okay. He ended up dying during a drinking binge.

This has got to be one of the sillyest [silliest?] threads ever?

The bottom line is that true numbers are unknowable.

The bottom line is that FSUW make a distinction between
"available" men and men in general. To be "available" means
decent, hard working, not an alchoholic, not a playboy (and hopefully
also a strong defender of the homestead).

The bottom line is that there are women available in Russia
(and FSULand in general) for WM to romance and marry. The acceptable
range of age differences has declined, but the supply of "available"
FSUW has not.

'nuff said.

Eduard,
The only thing your avatar "proves" is that you have a beautiful baby. ;D  While that in itself is a wonderful accomplishment (and you should be proud), it does not begin to substantiate your claims that there are 8 women to every man in the fsu.

Eduard, I sincerely do not understand your anger here.  You have chosen to paint yourself in a corner as I see it.  You have tied your whole existence here at RWD on a claim that you cannot substantiate.  With all else that you have to offer here, that seems like a foolish act IMO.  Move on from this silly debate that you cannot possibly win. (As you simply do not have the facts to support your thoughts on this subject)  There is no need for you to work yourself up emotionally as it appears to me that you are doing.

Dan has not attacked you as I see it here.  He has steadfastly maintained his position and supported it with a number of reliable sources.  You have not and can not do the same.  Again, I ask you to put aside this silly debate and focus on areas that can be truly useful to RWD (and you too in the long run).  Move on gracefully from this topic, but stay and share your wealth of knowledge.

Dan, I've got the message. This is your forum. You are always going to be right on this forum nomatter what. You are the admin. therefore there is no reason to debate anything any longer on these terms. It's a fixed game and you control the outcome. period.

No Ed - you have missed the point by a mile.

But I am not going to try to explain it to you any further.

Eduard,
That is unfair and uncalled for.  If Dan says none of your posts have been deleted or removed, then it is so, as if anything, Dan is an honest man.  He has been overly patient with your barbs and false accusations though out this thread.  You "lost" the debate because you have no facts to substantiate your point of view, not through trickery or any "fix" as you claim here.  To make such accusations is an insult to Dan.

If a rich married playboy is cheating with 5 girlfriends on the side, then their are more insincere people on the woman's side than the men's. It takes two to tango. Now I've heard RW are innocent participants because they didn't know the man is married but why would they go to bed with him if they never been to his home or get to know his life in a little more detail than just knowing his first name.

You are losing me with your metaphor. What exactly is the minefield? To be honest, I found dating in Russia very easy. It helps that I speak the language. Finding good women interested in me was not a problem. I could easily recognize those women that were not worth the effort. It was dating in Canada that was hard.

The main purpose of I using the minefield example was telling those that what have no faith in statistics is that they will when it comes to life and death on which path to choose. Now finding a wife isn't as serious a business but when I hear RW are more family oriented and is available to marry and there is a near 70% divorce rate in Russia, it kind of makes me think something isn't right. It can't be all RMs fault and maybe there is a higher percentage of insincere women there than we'd like to believe. It doesn't hurt to tell newbies to take off those rose colored glasses and watch their back.

Eduard,
The only thing your avatar "proves" is that you have a beautiful baby. ;D  While that in itself is a wonderful accomplishment (and you should be proud), it does not begin to substantiate your claims that there are 8 women to every man in the fsu.

Ken,
the 1:8 thing was not MY number. That was the number quoted in an article I read and according to my own personal RW experience it sounded just about right. Someone on that original thread did confirm that they also saw that statistic and even provided the info where it was at. So in no way I used that number to deceive anyone. Even if the number was 1:2 it would be the heck of a lot better than what we have here. Dan challenged me to change that stat on my site if he provided me with concrete info showing that it wasn't correct. I stood up to the challenge and once he showed me the official government stats I changed that statistic on my web site. I am a man of honor and keep my word. But the nasty attacks on me continued in spite of that. I was insulted and called names. When I posted a response it was immediately deleted and the topic locked. I reposted it in a new thread, and that was deleted right away as well. A member of RWD who is now my very satisfied client emailed me and told me that he didn't want to be a part of all that nastiness but to post  his email in my thread. I did and that was deleted!  (Well he promised that after our trip to Russia this summer and successful marriage he will write a big article here about his experience). I also explained that this statistical curiosity doesn't benefit my business in any way. Weather it's 1:1, 5:1 or 1:8 it doesn't matter. Everyone on this forum knows that they CAN meet and marry a beautiful, younger woman in the FSU that they won't be able to find here in the West.
This new thread was strictly a discussion, a debate, since the 1:1 statistic just isn't making sense when it comes to reality that I see every day. Attacks and accusations started again. This time Simoni and Gabaub stood up and voiced their opinions on the stats that were similar to mine. that was the end of it. thread moved to "services" section, combined with a bunch of old posts, and basically opened my eyes on what this is all about.
So Ken, I appreciate you friendly tone right now, but when I started a thread on different ethnic groups in FSU people weren't as friendly and started attacking me until Simoni posted that that thread was his idea. I feel prejudice here and it is sad. I'm not the only one by the way...

VWRW and I discussed this thread over lunch today.   Just as Edward has spent a lot of time living in the FSU, VWRW has spend 90% of her life living there.  She should have a pretty good view of reality.   He comments were that the number of men and women are close to even but there is a very large shortage of men who would be good marriage material.

Now I've heard RW are innocent participants because they didn't know the man is married but why would they go to bed with him if they never been to his home or get to know his life in a little more detail than just knowing his first name.

There are two factors at play. It is still very hard for a woman to succeed in terms of having a career in Russia. Quite often, having a powerful or high-status lover can open doors that would otherwise be closed.

The other factor is that sometimes it is better to have some attention from a man than to have none. A woman who has gone weeks or months or longer without any masculine companionship will often accept a married man if she considers that she does not have any other options. I don't condone it, but I do understand it.

The main factors driving divorce in Russia in 2007 according to a survey whereby respondents were asked to identify those factors that compelled people to file for a divorce:

  • Alcoholism and drug addiction: 51% (compared to 33% in 1990)
  • Housing problems (i.e. the couple not having their own place): 41% (compared to 21% in 1990)
  • Inability to feed the family: 29% (compared to 8% in 1990)
  • Interference of family members: 18% (compared to 17% in 1990)
  • Inability to have children remained constant at 10%
  • No compelling reason other than the married couple themselves: 31% (compared to 34% in 1990)

These results are based on a survey of 1,600 individuals living in 153 different population centers representing 46 different regions of Russia.

As you can see, the factors that are listed as the underlying causes of divorce have changed quite drastically since 1990 and Soviet times. Substance abuse tops the list in 2007 and economic hardship is also a leading cause of divorce as identified by Russians.

Especially those with western salaries.

I guess many western women are thinking the same as those in FSU.

Supply meets Demand with dubious results more often than not.

Those that truly profit are the one's making a buck on the deal.

This has got to be one of the sillyest [silliest?] threads ever?
Silliest, adjectives/adverbs ending in -y change it to -i- when turned into comparatives (-i-er) or superlatives (-i-est).

This would make a much more interesting discussion than what has been debated ad nauseam here, with a whole herd of dead horses showing multiple bruises and possible compound fractures :(.

>>When I posted a response it was immediately deleted and the topic locked. I reposted it in a new thread, and that was deleted right away as well.<<

Eduard, just to be certain, I went back through and looked at all deleted posts from RWD to see if I was mis-remembering anything. What I found was one post from you that was entitled; "Took time to reflect - last response to my "I've done it" locked thread."

Now, this one post was ALL that was deleted, and it was a response of yours to a Locked Topic and it came some time AFTER the topic was locked. The topic was locked for a reason. If you would be allowed to post in a locked topic - then ALL should be allowed to post in a locked topic - and then the action of locking would be meaningless - wouldn't it. Does the logic of this register with you?

It seems you are offended and "insulted" that you were not provided the opportunity to 'have the last word.' Oh well.

>>when I started a thread on different ethnic groups in FSU people weren't as friendly and started attacking me until Simoni posted that that thread was his idea.<<

Eduard, have you given any consideration to the part YOU played in things developing this way? You want to blame me or the "dingos" (your term, BTW - do you recognize it?) at RWD for the fact that "people weren't as friendly" - but do you recognize your own part in this - and what YOU might have done differently to achieve a different outcome?

Just curious.

- Dan

My error: it should have been "also" and not "not." I will correct this error. Thank you for pointing it out.
