Need Assistance on Form DS-156
« on: February 16, 2008, 06:28:01 AM »
Hello Everyone.

I need some assistance in getting information or verification. We want to bring my Mother In law (MIA) to the US for a visit. I called and spoke to USCIS and refered me to the US State Dept. - DC. I called and was informed the only document I need to fill out is the form DS-156 on our part here in the US and she would have to go to the US Consulate in St. Petersburg and request a visa to travel here to the US.

They also informed me that she can do this first b4 we fill out form DS -156. Then I heard from others on another group that she only needs to go to the US consulate and fill out forms or request a visa to come to the US and that is it. We would like her to stay the mazimum allowed time here in the US which I believe is 3 months, Not sure on this.

Can anyone informed me what is the correct procedure so we can start the process, Because I remember working with the USCIS was not a fun process at all.

Thanks
Salsauno   :)

The Moscow embassy website has some info on this and it is very hard to get good step by step info on what to do.  We are trying to do the same thing and just found we were doing some things wrong last night.

Anyway, from what I read you have to fill out the DS-156 online and print it, than that goes to your MIL who must take it to a local pony express office and mail it along with her passport, two passport photos, a payment of $ 131.00 US but in Roubles, any supporting documents etc to the embassy.   Pony express will let her know when the interview is at the time and it will only be a week or two away then she must go to the Embassy for an interview.   I don't think the interview can be done in S.P.   I think Moscow is the place.

You can check it out on the Moscow embassy site and see if there is more info or if what I am saying is correct.

Hello TurboGuy.

NIce to here from you. I believe I spoke to you a couple of years ago when I was getting ready to do the documents for my fiance at that time to come to the US(Now my lovely wife). We got married and we are very happy. Now we want to bring our MIL to the US  at lease for now  to visit as long as possible then once my wife gerts her citizen ship we will do all the paperwork to bring her permanent. Now TurboGuy, I understand what you are saying however the part where you mentioned that she needs to send in the DS - 165 with her passport  at the same time. I understood that she has to take this with her on the day of the interview and not send it before.

I'll check on the embassy Vs. the US consulate in St . Petersburg. I hope she can do it in st. petersburg since its only 2 .5 hours in train compare to day train ride( one night).

By the way, I remeber there was another forum where we sending messages and not this one and for some reason I erased it from my book marks. This forum seems to be good, however can you provide me with the address to the other forum. It looked a look different from this one and I cannot remember it at this time.

Thanks
salsauno

Yes, I think we did exchange some messages but I don't recall exactly where.   I will PM you later.   We are in Orlando at the moment and just ready to head out the door.

This is Dept of State territory, Not DHS. Consulate with jurisdiction appears to be St. Petersburg based on what you are saying. She is applying for a B2 Visitor visa.

You need to send a letter of invitation for her to visit-preferably with a set timeframe for the visit.
