Entry Arrival from Russia to Atlanta, Ga.
« on: August 20, 2005, 07:08:07 AM »
Hello Everyone.

I request some information. First I want to thank Jet, Waxman, & Turbo guy for their information last month and others that shared their info as well. Towards TurboGuy and his fiance, I really shared in mind your ordeal  in ref. to the CO at the Embassy and could really not believe what both of you went thru. Now as I read everything is fine and working great for both. My Saludos to both you & your fiance/ Bride to be from a Latin Caballero. TurboGuy what they have informed you in ref. to going to the caribbean like Puerto Rico. They are correct no visa, no passport and everythnig is just like in the us like US currency, language Spanish & English and very friendly people and the weather & water fantastico. I should know about this because I only lived there 21 years and my family still has property there. You might want to take a 7 to 10 vacation , enjoy & relax with your new soulmate. All the information that you all provided to me was great and exact. My Russian girlfriends interview went very smooth and well. In 2 days she recieved her visa and yellow sealed envelope at her home via DHL.

Now I had some questions because it is not finished until I have her in my arms with me here in Atalnta, Ga at the airport walking together out the airport. She has informed me that she has read messages from other women that have come thru. the airport and was denied entry. I have informed her that this did not seem normal. So I called the Immigration office at the airport and was informed that the only documents required when she comes thru. is her Visa, her russian passport and her sealed envelope send to her from the US embassy and that is all. I also asked if there was any reason why such a women would be denied entry at the airport after she has arrived with the documents and I was informed he does not know of any. Now the questions to you all  are.

1- Is this true or is there something my girlfriend should be concern with at  the airport ????

2- Has anyone heard of such incidents of denial at the airport here in the US???

I would really aprreciate any information possible on this.

Thanks

All I can say is that I hope there is nothing to it.   My gal is coming into the USA through the Atlanta airport next Thursday and if after what I went through with the visa if they were to decide not to let her in i would not be a happy camper.  I am not sure when your gal is coming but if it is after the 25th i can tell you how we made out.

Can a Border Patrol/Immigration officer at POE refuse entry to a foreign national holding a valid visa?  Legally, they do have the right to do so.  Does it happen?  I suppose it has.  But they would probably need a VERY good reason, as they would certainly be on the receiving end of an extra large can of whup-ass from someone.  Probably wouldn't happen unless they were 100% sure of their reasons.

For a woman with a valid K-1 and passport, no reason to worry.  The ride back home from the airport is more dangerous.

I am flying down to Atlanta and meeting her there and then flying back with her.   The stupid round trip ticket to Atlanta costs almost as much as a trip to Russia.   Had she come into JFK it would have been more.

If you pick up next Fridays paper and read where someone went bezerk at the Atlanta airport you know that what you wrote about happened.

I will let you know.

I've heard the stories you quote and they are true, however, these stories are also 3+ years old and so, they are effectively worthless. These days, with changes in immigration policy being so frequent, even info that's over 30 days is suspect. With the current system of fingerprint scans and machine readable visas, it's almost eliminated the possibility of denial at POEs, though the law still states that POE officers have the absolute last word as to whether a traveller gets into the US or not. Furthermore, the info you have is correct, she needs nothing more than her Intl passport with visa attached, the sealed brown envelope, and the I-94 card she'll fill out on the plane before she lands.

Sealed Brown envelope?  What is in this envelope, pray tell?

Sealed Brown envelope?  What is in this envelope, pray tell?

I've actually had the pleasure of reviewing (and photocopying) the contents of the secretive and mysterious "sealed brown envelope."  By mistake, the folks at JFK POE processed my (then) fiancée and son's paperwork, and placed it in an envelope with an old address for the VSC (Vermont Service Center).  After the USPS decided it couldn't deliver the envelope, it ended up in the dead letter office in Atlanta, GA.  It was opened by a USPS employee, whom only recognizing one address (mine) amid all of the papers in in the envelope, mailed the entire thing (original envelope from the JFK POE and all) to me.  Once I figured out what the hell it was, I brought it up to the St. Albans, VT sub-district office.  After making copies of everything, of course.   ;)

So, what's in it?  Nothing too exciting.  Some of the original application/bio graphical information.  Copy of the medical report (sans X-ray, of course.  Still have that stashed behind a dresser).  The application form that my wife filled out for her Moscow interview.  That was about all.
