Good that this thread is still alive because I heard a new one this week (and we have known each other for over 6 years).

This is in the category of manners.  In particular:

    Entering an Elevator.


I motioned her to enter the elevator ahead of me, and she informed me, "The man should enter an elevator before the woman."

"That seems impolite.  Why the man first?"

"In case it falls!"

I still do not know if she was serious or whether this was an example of her dry sense of humor.  All I got was a paradoxical smile.

And maybe this paradox identifies another You Know Your're Married to a RW:  you can not decide if she is serious or teasing you.

BTW, the elevator was in New Orleans which is in a more decrepit and "down and dirty" state than I remember from 35 years of traveling there.

In a lot of places in Europe, its customary for the man to enter first to check out things before the lady enters.

Most of these customs are usually based on some sort of reasoning.  They even sometimes change to accommodate modern situations.

Today, it is customary for the man to walk between the street and the woman when walking down the sidewalk.  This is to protect her from any water or dirt that may splash up from a passing automobile.  A century or so ago, the man walked between the woman and the building, as people used to dump their chamber pot out their windows.

When entering an unoccupied building, or any building that has a low visability inside, the man should enter first to assure the environment is safe for the woman to enter.

LOL .. it's so funny. Russian women do NOT like air conditioning. I see you didnt' realize either that air conditioning causes bad health. It's only now, after 5 hot summers that my wife is begrudgingly admitting she might like it.

I do indeed. And the place is being transformed around me. I don't know where to find anything now! And I have to agree with something I/O said. My RW at least is NOT a domestic godess.
So far, I have been amazed at how quickly she has adapted. The one sore point is the shower facitities right now as I have a lack of water pressure.

Being a domestic godess would mean that she is a good housekeeper, cook and is generally a Martha Stewart type.  Never to be confused with my wife!   I keep asking Lena when the hell am I going to get my cozy home?  She laughs and tells me I have her confused with some other RW!

No, she does do housework but she's just not that good at putting things in order to be able to find them again later. As a result our apartment is starting to look like it's had a 12 year old in residence for months. I have tried to put some time in to start tidying up but somehow it just never seems to happen.

Ah .. sounds good deccie! Reminds me of my wife. One the one hand, she is a domestic goddess. She does all the cooking, cleaning, laundry, shopping, all the domestic stuff. On the other hand, she is not really organized !! ..   We've been married 5 1/2 years now, and we still have stuff around in boxes and bags because ... well because ... you just never know .. . you might need it someday !!    I'll tell you I find this combination of disorganized domestic goddess very appealing ...
