My Hello...
« on: July 07, 2008, 05:59:44 AM »
Hi All,

I've been lurking for awhile now.  I'm pretty sure I've read just about every thread on this board and there's a ton of good advice.  I do appreciate that a place like this exists.

Little basic info about me, I'm 31yo, living in Denver, CO.  Single, never married, no kids.

I expect to make my first trip to Russia before the end of the year and so I've started writing a few women.  I suspect I'll fall into the WMVO category, but we'll see how well that holds up after the first visit.

Just to be clear about my intentions, so that I dont get labeled incorrectly  ;),  this whole enterprise is a matter of widening the lasso for me.  Denver has some great women, but none that I've dated seem to be very interested in the marriage / family / kids concept. (or maybe it's just they're not interested in it with me?  :'( )

Regardless, I'm not in this to get an upgrade on a how partners looks, save anyone, be the center of attention, find penpals, etc.  It just seems like another legitimate path to explore, with a few advantages.  I have this idea in my head that a foreign woman would be far more interesting then a local.  I'm under no illusion that this is easy, or cheap.  I may simply be falling for the romantic ideal, but I dont think I would be very happy if I didnt test the waters, so to speak.

I have searched the board and couldnt find any info on the site that I'm using.  It seems very nice, they have all the features that are listed here as desirable.  I've been writing consistently to 2-3 women for about 2 weeks now.  It seems legit, but if anyone has any opinion, Id love to hear it.  (Or maybe I should make a separate post in the "Starting Out" forum?)  Anyways, the site is allsinglerussianwomen.com.

Thanks in advance! Based on what Ive already read I expect to get a lot of good advice!

Welcome Dan!

You seem to have a mature and sound attitude about this endeavor.

If that is your personality, so be it.  Just have some form of a backup plan if nothing more than the telephone number of an agency in the city you plan to visit.  Perhaps the WOVO boys will explain the degree of comfort you need before taking the trip.

Good!  RW are suspicious of man who says that all AW he knows are bad.

Fine.  What are the "few advantages" in your mind?

They are interesting in the sense that they are a novelty.  Yet, the novelty will wear off.  Make sure she is interesting as a person, not just because she is foreign.

It is not.  The biggest cost is your lost time.  This endeavor demands much time, and the real work starts when she arrives.  If your job does not give you a lot of flexible time, make sure she speaks some English and she can function independently (i. e., she is not a helpless princess expecting to be waited upon).

Never heard of it, but it has been a long time since I used an agency.  The women's photos seem legitimate, and the price is reasonable.  Are you corresponding directly with the women using their private at-home email?  Can you telephone them directly?

Hi Dan

welcome.. !

I used this site ( http://www.allsinglerussianwomen.com for a month - but found luckylovers.net better... But I had tried http://www.LuckyLovers.net before and not rated it, so I guess the fact I met my wife there may be clouding my judgement !

You've come to a good place to ask questions..

Isn't there a HUGE Russian community in your area?! ;)

good luck

Thanks for the replies and kind words!

I say Im planning a VO trip only because I dont think I would be very comfortable in a speed dating atmosphere.  I understand about the backup plan, thats just common sense.  Tell me if Im wrong, but I suspect as I get closer to a trip I could contact one of the agencies and give them a heads up that Id like to see them if things go sour?  They wouldnt ignore me or give bad service, would they?

At first I thought the fact that these women were definitely interested in pursuing relationships was the greatest advantage, then I read the "cold feet" thread, which is giving me a slight pause.  Other then that, the advantages I see are more related to the internet dating aspect, rather then the foreign woman part.  You get to set some criteria, find women that meet your minimums, rather then hoping they stroll into your bar or you bump into them at some event.

I didnt quite mean as a novelty, though that is a definite appeal.  Interesting to me would be a different background, different views / opinions and some additional mystery beyond the basic "man / woman" differences...  Finding someone who is exactly like me, with different plumbing, is not anywhere close to what I want.

I'm not terribly worried about the time cost, I have very good hours right now and definitely an ability to change / adapt if I met someone and were lucky enough to be in a position that Id have to dote for awhile.

I'm really only talking to 3 women right now.  2 of them I talk to through their personal emails and the third I do have her personal email and have exchanged emails, but she prefers talking through the site.  I havent asked for a phone number from any of them, I think it's a bit early. This week I'll probably get that ball rolling.

You know, I saw a post of yours talking about that site, so I did sign up.  I havent used it yet, except a few searches.  Barring any bad information, I think Im going to give the other site a good run (since Ive already paid ;) ), then switch.

Dan, welcome! Make no mistake about it, Eastern European women ARE different than American women. Yes, they each have their own personality, there are good ones and bad ones, (the same as AW), but they are different, and IMO in many ways just better. (I mean the good ones.) There seems to be something that is more female about the FSUW that is just deeper and more organic than the AW of today. It's not just the novelty. Although, we shouldn't underestimate the novelty. I've been married for more than 5 wonderful years, and I still LOVE my wife's cute Russian accent and the little Russian names she calls me. Where else can you get that?  8)

Keep up posted of your progress. There are some very intelligent and wise gentlemen here that can help you with anything, too.
