SMS from Ukraine to US
« on: November 02, 2005, 10:01:14 AM »
Does anyone know how to send SMS to a US mobile from a Ukrainian mobile?

The woman I wish to communicate doesn't know how to do it, her provider is UMC Jeans (+380-663...).

She's tried +1-212-xxx-xxxx but it doesn't seem to work. Is there any special code she needs to use?

Thanks in advance for your help.

I use to go through an intermediary - ipipi.com.  That seemed to work well.

I could never get the SMS to work when I tried to SMS into Ukraine or Russia.  The easiest way is to use ippi.com - it worked for me very well in both countries.

I had a girl once wiht KievStar...and it would not work.  I checked here-and that company does not have agreements in place with some US cell carriers.

But if she has UMC it will work

do it like this, using the + character

+1 xxx xxx xxxx

or 00 in front of 1, which is what I use in Europe to call the US

Since it is sending SMS to e-mail, this don't work directly, she need use a special nummer from his provider...

So, she send the SMS to his provider who send the message to the e-mail recipient...

After have composed the message ( like the example ), she need to send it to "101" who is a service number...

If you read the full SMS guide from UMC, you will see that other number are used for transliteration by example...

All these special number are service number... like a SMS to 555 give you all the information over your phone (updating and check of a condition of the account, definition of validity, etc.), to 555 give information over share ( action )... etc

Each compagny have his own service with special short number...

I and Galina have use a lot Kyivstar these last year... and know several problem...

First, for SMS... when they are more long that 160 char, some part of the message is cut... not the end of message but randomly part of the message... Second, EMS was not working ( message from 500 char )... and the same with MMS because the format used by my phone was not compatible with the format used by the phone of Galina...

You can find info over MMS with Kyivstar at

http://www.kyivstar.net/site.php/en/services/contract/messages/mms

Code: [Select]
You can send MMS to Kyivstar, Ace&Base or DJUICE subscribers and also to subscribers of other Ukrainian operators.

For configure your phone for send and receive MMS with Kyivstar, visit

http://www.kyivstar.net/site.php/en/mobile/mobile_set_all

Choice your phone model ( if not in the list, it will not working )... the result page give you the needed information for setup "Starport" ( WAP system ) and for setup MMS.

A automatic setting for WAP/MMS is possible :

Code: [Select]
To make automatic settings of WAP or MMS in your phone, please select your model from the table presented below, and then choose connection type which you would like to use and send SMS to the 7034 number. In your message you have to indicate only one digit which corresponds to your telephone model and selected settings.

In a few minutes after you have sent SMS to the number 7034 you will receive a service message with settings which you have to save in your handset. Usually it is enough, just to press Save button. There are some peculiarities in settings for a number of handsets. This peculiarities are described in "Comments" column.

For the table, see at

http://www.kyivstar.net/site.php/en/mobile/auto_settings

PS : I think that i go change my username here... maybe GoogleSearch II will be fine :D:D:D ... Guys, you need learn how to use search engine... the result up was find in around 5 minutes, more time was needed for type these post...

I also recommend ipipi.com.  You set up the account and buy a block of credits.  You designate the phones that can use your account, namely yours and hers.  Each one of you sends your SMS to a local server run by ipipi, and they route it to the other person over the internet.  I use it, and it works great.

It is also a good way to show her that you care because you set up an easy system for her to use that is prepaid by you.

And it is fairly inexpensive, too.

I have just signed up for ipipi.com service. My sweetie uses Kievstar.  While I can get the messages from the US to the Ukraine,   My sweetie's SMS messages to the German SMS gateway rarely ever make it through at all. They just disappear!

Who uses ipipi.com from the Ukraine?

What SMS number do you send your SMS's to in the Ukraine to get them into the ipipi.com system?

THX! -N
