Celebrating the Dead...

Of course you would. So would Blues Fairy and Sculpto in regards to their 'conversation' regarding fighting animals and abortion in the above post.

Done.

Topics about views on fighting animals and abortion also should be discussed before commitment.

Celebrating the Dead...
« Reply #51 on: March 30, 2009, 09:50:21 PM »
I cannot believe the sudden urge I have to sacrifice a chicken.

Here's something I mentioned in another thread, but probably it would be a good topic for here.

I stated something along the lines of discussing "how you handle disagreements" really gives no useful information.  Now, Aside from all out picking a fight with a lady to see how she responds, which I think would a rather disrespectful if not completely out there in wacky land, how would you ladies suggest that a man find out this information?

For example:
Does she blow a gasket?
Does she become quiet, storm off and refuse to communicate?

If you ask or discuss this with any woman she'll answer you with something like "I like to communicate and find compromise", but this 'communication' could be at 300 decibels and include flying objects.

I know the old adage "watch how a woman treats others because eventually you'll receive the same", but during a shorter visit, often there isn't time to really see how someone interacts with others (best behavior scenario), and the euphoric nature of a visit often covers or buries topics which could cause a disagreement.

I guess a guy could mention in passing something like "Damn, your friend looks HOT! Can she go with us to the banya?" -- which might get that sought after info, but it seems that being alive for the wedding is generally better for a man under most circumstances.

Cock fighting is not very popular but it does exist.  Bull fighting is more popular in Mexico.  Donkey shows exist in Mexico as well and usually cock fighting happens in combination with these shows.  Every culture has things other cultures think are strange. Makes the World interesting.

Oh, yeah! Like dog-fights, baby-girls killings, Black Mass, child prostitution and female circumcision... Mighty interesting to a student in comparative cultures-religions, maybe even to a tourist - especially to have a glimse of the exotic without becoming involved and later either condemning these savage practices or/and savoring them on the sly...

But when you ask somebody from a different culture or even personal views on some of these practices (or other that seem OK to you, but may be abhorent even to contemplate to your chosen one) to go and live somewhere, where these are practiced, wouldn't it be best to find out beforehand?

Some things are minor, like somebody's view of jellied fish (delicious! smack! smack! miaoooow!) as impossible to enjoy, or Olga's husband not eating liver (same case with the Boatswain and myself, though I do not go to the lengths of preparing liver-Stroganoff for my sole consumption :)) - these you can adjust... Some are definitely not. Though I'm at a loss how can a Festival of the Dead hurt...

Kievstar, unfortunately it is very popular in South Florida (Miami) and it does exist.

Every once in a while, a cock fighting ring is busted out on some farm land in the Everglades or some other isolated location here.

Some Cubans love cock fighting and bet a lot of money on it.

Re: Topics of Communication Before Commitment...

My wife would feel the same way, put in that context. Makes me wonder how difficult it
would be for a Western undertaker to attract a FSU woman. I always associated Nov. 2nd
with the dead. In the Catholic Church, at least, it's referred to as All Souls Day.

Vaughn, I also feel not so comfortable with expression "Celebrating the dead", for me "The day to honor memory of the departed" or All Saints' Day or our Russian Parent's Saturday sounds better  :)

On another note, did anybody discuss jealousy? That was a topic we discussed at length,
its causes and effects.

I agree, that such topic as jealousy also should be discussed before commitment. IMO one of the sides of the jealousy is mistrust. It is difficult to live with a person who treats your with distrust day after day. And I also don't understand why you should be committed and more over marry a person if you distrust him/her  :)

Re: Government benefits for orphanages
« Reply #57 on: March 31, 2009, 09:13:14 AM »
The major problem seems to be not so much when the kids are at the orphanage, where they receive at least some care and food, but when they are turned out at age 16, with nowhere to go but the street :(.

In Russia orphanages stay in orphanages houses till their 18. The orphanages have such benefits from the Government as free preparation courses and education in Universities, the higher scholarship (grant), free medical insurance, they receive free apartment (if they don't have any propiska) and many other benefits.

HAHAHA!!! now that's hilarious.

And to the readers, let me state for the record that the above "disagreement/compromise" post WAS in a thread where it was at least somewhat topical.. but history has been rewritten, as least through the fission process...

though I guess major disagreements with an RW can lead to human sacrifice and a celebration of the dead -- of sorts!  8)

therefore if you don't want to be sacrificed and honored in her memory as one of the departed you should discuss all controversial topics with her before  pronouncing a sentence "Till death do us apart".  8)
