Economy Changing Dating Scene
« on: April 21, 2009, 08:22:55 PM »
I started a thread called Economic Mournings some months ago. It got a lot off posts, yet drifted off topic to include, well economic mournings.

(By the way, I just came back to the USA.  I lived in South America for 6 months.  I am very involved with a special lady I certainly don't deserve.  It could become serious.  I will not know for sure until I spend more time alone with her during the summer.  But God is Great and Women are generous.  I miss this board, and the good company it makes.

By the way, I have seen / learned soooo much about the agency gig and women looking for an American man!  DAMN!  I know there are differences between Colombians and Russians, but there are similarities too!    Just a word to the wise, be careful!  check and double check.  If they say making laws is similar to making sausage ... then the work of a marriage agency is more "delicate" still :)

I have noticed my emails are filled with letters from girls from Russia and Ukraine lately.  These are old profiles that I have in place in several places.  I have not received letters for many many months, and now a glut.  Which makes me wonder about how the economy is affecting how Americans are being received - sought after. by RW?

If this is not a topic already begin discussed directly and indirectly, it will be.  So,  I thought I would ask again about how these changes are affecting the main theme of the discussion group?

What say you?

I say desperate times make desperate people...
Always be a first-rate version of yourself, instead of a second-rate version of somebody else :)

I say desperate times make desperate people...

But, are not the "people" only pawns in this game? Is it not the businesses themselves which are becoming desperate?

I noticed a report this evening which indicated world losses may currently stand in excess of $6 trillion with USA holding about 60% of that, yet I notice USA continues to be the "Go To" place for the most part. Really speaking, for the financially desperate vagabond Fem, China or India should be the "Go To" place but somehow, I don't see that happening anytime soon. Rivardco, as long as you continue to be seen to be hanging around the Good Ol' US of A, I suspect your email in box will continue to fill. Same ol' same ol' I suggest.

BTW, I dated a Latin American quite seriously for quite some time and am now married to a Russian. I've long thought the similarities were more than a little striking.

i see a lot more "win green card, move to america" banners on many different websites, than i used to before crisis, i wonder why would that be? i thought people are losing their jobs and there's plenty of unemployed local work force, why promote the green card lottery more actively at such a time? Or is it that other companies started saving on their ads, and the green card thingy started to stand out because of reduction of all other ads?

I asked a friend who has an fair sized agency in Kharkov if she has seen an increase in women after the down turn. Her response was, surprisingly not. I wonder if other agencies are seeing the same?

There is cultural and financial openmindness / motivation to meeting an American man for their purposes of marriage.  Think about the absoluteness of that statement.  Joining a marriage agency could be curiosity; however, it also is a strong indicator or withdraw of a woman from her natural situation.

There is likely to be greater changes on the surface.  That is the discussion I am wondering about?

Came across a couple of American men in the immigration queue at Borispol. They were lamenting that soon USA will be called USSA (United Socialist State of America).
With the state western economies are in I wonder why anyone should consider moving to US or Europe?

the only advantage i see about having foreign residency or passport is much easier travel around the world, because quite frankly it's rather annoying when you have to beg and prove stuff to someone (embassies) just so that they let you in, and they might not even do so. the whole "guilty unless proven otherwise" attitude you get form the embassies is quite unpleasant.

I don't know everything but in many parts of the world life goes on with about the same situation finacially. The poor are still poor...BUT...the well off or rich are getting poor it seems.

Thinking about it I suppose better than half the world is a little bit hungrier but the other half just cannot eat as much caviar. The dating scene seems to be in the hungrier area to me.

Perhaps the full mailbox was the work of a desperate Fat Yuri rather than desperate FSUW???

Things are tough but I think one of my initial goals should still hold true for men just starting their search...  "DO NOT fall for a woman who's just desperate to leave her home, friends, family... look for something much more substantial to base the relationship on".

i am not stating an opinion with the following.. justa thought that occured while reading the thread..

it might be possible that fewer ladies than normal would be seeking a foreign husband as family unity leads to security during tough financial times.  It might be easier and more secure to stay with the status quo, regardless of how difficult it might be, than to jump on the first plane out of poverty..

I might be in a minority here but I think there are more women  looking at foreign men than ever before. Most RWs have a computer at home and there are plenty free of sites to look for a man. They dont need or like an agency controlling their correspondence any more than  a man does nor do they like it anymore than we do. The women today just dont need an agency if they have a computer at home.

I think you may be right.

I recall a couple of conversations with older Russians who basically saw no problem with nudging their daughters in the direction of WM. The basic thought would be that it was no worse than the arranged messages of a couple of decades ago (or even more recently).
Pick and choose carefully among the advice offered and consider the source carefully. PM, Skype or email if you care to chat or discuss

I had to dig to find this old thread.

Economically, things are changing fast.  Seems like just yesterday I was in Colombia and the dollar was at a almost 5 year high. Now it is back down to a almost a 5 year low. Argentina and Latvia are being rumored to devalue their currency. Study the exchange charts and one can not help to imagine the exchange from dollars to Ukraine is positive?  And, what about the situation in Russia?  It appears the the gloss has worn off of the Luxury market?

From some of you guys that have visited recently, or are expats, what is the situation on the ground today?  Anybody with clever suppositions for the near future?

Food for thought - http://www.wilsoncenter.org/index.cfm?topic_id=1424&fuseaction=topics.publications&doc_id=557260&group_id=7718
