Work Permit
« on: November 13, 2005, 08:02:05 AM »
Hello Everyone.

I has a question: My fiance which is which me and we will be married in a couple weeks has informed me that she was informed via other russian women here in the US  on other boards on the internet the following. Any russian women that enters thru- JFK or NY airport will get there documents stamped -APPROVED FOR WORK-while passing or processing thru. Imigrations & customs at the airport, Compared thru. other airport like Atlanta where my finace went thru. however her ducuments were not stamped at all. It is true or is this a situation where it depends on the agents working that day at the airport. Can someone let me know on this????

Thanks

Yes, I can confirm that in August, if you arrive in JFK, your fiancee's visa (form I-43 I believe) will be stamped with "APPROVED FOR WORK" by the friendly USCIS folks. I do not believe that any other US POE has this capability. I did not even have to ask them, my then-fiancee's (now wife's) passport papers were automatically stamped this way.

Yes JFK, to my knowledge is the only POE that will give the stamp.

It is a blessing in disguise she didn't enter at Dulles because I'm almost positive they will not give the stamp.

Unfortunately it is only good for 90 days (for a K1 visa).

True about JFK. I knew that when I was coming, but I got into LA airport. Asked for a employment authorization stamp there, they said no.. :(

This memo from SSA should clear up K-1 work authorization with the local office for those who entered any POE other than JFK ;)

Jet, it is dated 2001, I think some significant changes have been made since then

SSA would not issue my step-son a SSN (he is almost 15).

How in the hell can he get a job at age 16 with no SSN?

Can someone please advise me on this?

Will getting him the taxpayer ID from IRS be of any use?

Clyde,

Supposedly you work for SSA.  You should know SSA will not issue a  SSN to any one who doesn't have the right to work.  You will have  to file for an EAD in order to get him a SSN.

Forget about the ITTN, that won't fly.
