May trip report - WN?
« on: May 29, 2009, 06:44:32 AM »
Hey Guys -

Well - in brief it was great!

As some of you may recall from my former posts, I went over to meet 2 RW after about 6 weeks of emails and skype sessions with each.

I'll keep some of the details out of this post for privacy purposes but you should be able to get the overall gist.

Both women were in regional towns.  One was a 30 yo, the other a 33 yo.

They couldn't have been more different although both were very cute.  In terms of personalities they were poles apart.

RW#1
She was pretty stand-offish and it was very difficult to get her to relax and have fun.  I thought when we first met (at the airport) that perhaps she was just shy and nervous and that she would gradually open up and relax - but unfortunately, this wasn't to be.  We spent a fair bit of time together - evenings and some lunches/afternoon outings over 3 days.  After day 1 i decided that her personality wasn't attractive to me and i lost interest in her as a prospect.  I also didn't really see any signs of obvious interest from her.  After the meeting at the airport - where i had gone straight up to her and sought to kiss her on the cheek and she pulled away like i had swine flu - i hadn't tried any form of physical contact with her.  On the last night at dinner we had a 'put your cards on the table' event. Both of us agreed we didn't have chemistry and, while unfortunate, decided it best not to take things further.  Seems like we were both graduates from the school of stating the bleeding obvious!

So - i was quite disappointed with this situation but my hopes turned to RW#2.  It proved the worth of the old adage of not putting too much stock in the contents of emails!

RW#2
A totally different situation here!  From the very first instant of meeting her, she was warm, with a sparkling and vivacious personality. She was very attractive and i was blown away!  In contrast to #1, she actually approached me and kissed me on the cheek.  She wanted to know all about my trip to date (i didn't tell her about my previous travels in Russia) in the taxi on the way to the hotel.  She came up to my room - i didn't even have to ask her and we spoke for about 2 hours.  Everything seemed as it should be for a first meeting.  We spent the next two days together pretty much most of the time and i enjoyed her company.  She was affectionate and on a number of occasions would grab my hand (i deliberately wouldn't grab hers from time-to-time just to see if she would initiate contact).  I met her mother, who cooked for me, and was very pleasant and always smiling - just like her daughter.  Apparently, i must have said and done the right things as #2 later told me that her mother approved of me!  Just for the record, we did not sleep with each other (i'm talking about the daughter here ;-) ) but there was a lot of physical contact.  I respect the fact that she wasn't easy although i definitely wanted to give her the benefits of my full attention in that department!

When it came time to go, i was quite sad to leave her.  However, it took another day before i realized just how much of an impact she's had on me.  Since my return, we've swapped sms and had a skype session and have told each other how great it was to meet and how we are missing each other.

So dear RWDers - i am pleased to conclude by saying that i've got a very solid prospect in RW#2!  I think that the next step will be to meet again for a week or so fairly soon - subject to work demands. I do have a few concerns about our long-term compatibility but the only way to resolve them is to spend more time with her.

Thanks for all your guidance and assistance guys! Without the support of this forum i would have had a much tougher time making all the arrangements and deciding on my approach.

BTW - i used a driver and it only took about 1hr 20 mins from SVO to DME.  On the return leg, i used the aeroexpress at both ends and this was excellent.

Congratulations and job well done Whynot!

You are absolutely correct, spend as much time as you can with her on your next visit.

I was fortunate enough to spend 3 month's with my wife in her hometown before she came to the GoodOl'USA.

In those 3 month's, I learned a lot about her (us).

Nice TR... short and to the point - AND best of all a good outcome.

Congrats Whynot...  I hope you're able to visit again soon to spend some more time with your lady!

Thanks for the feedback and comments guys!

Next steps are to meet #2 on neutral territory soon - spend a bit of time together and make sure that the 3 days weren't just an aberration.  I have mentioned this idea to her and she is very keen!

I know there are a number of countries where Russian citizens either do not need visas or can get one readily - i'll do some research and see what would be best.

I told my mother for the first time today about why i went to Russia and the outcome.  I was pleasantly surprised - i expected her to be negative about it but in fact she was very supportive.  That makes it much easier down the track if (WHEN!!!) it comes to taking things to the next level!

By the way - if anyone's thinking of flying S7 i can recommend them - modern airbus aircraft, fairly well organised and pleasant service.  Some of those flight attendants are real honeys!

Why neutral territory as opposed to her hometown?

It depends on which route you fly on S7 but yes they are upgrading the whole fleet supposedly. I have been on a few S7 flights that make you think as to "do I REALLY want to get on that plane?". In S7's defense, yes I have been on many of their better planes as well and it is completely a different experience. The decor isn't bad either  ;D

I've met her in her hometown already and i'd like to see how she is when we're in a place which is new to both of us.  Also, i think it would be kind of fun to explore a place together and a treat for her - she's not had much opportunity to travel abroad as yet.

To each his/her own. I believe you mentioned you spent just a few days with her. You have only begun to scratch the surface of this lady and the budding relationship. There is much euphoria when you meet and click with a RW but as with most women and a first meeting you only saw what she wanted you to see. If the relationship grows there will be plenty of time for vacations and travel. FWIW

Absolutely - i agree.  I do plan to spend a fair bit longer with her on the next meet but i think that meeting elsewhere will reveal a lot more about who she is as a person.

WN, while it is expedient to go somewhere that does not require a visa, it is handy for the gal to begin building a history of visa usage and return to her home. Not saying forget the visaless places but doing a trip to somewhere with a visa isn't always a bad idea unless the logistics of getting the visa proves to be a strain. If she isn't able to travel to the Embassy that's usually an issue. There are places where she can go which don't require tons of paperwork to get into and out of for a simple beach vacation. You might consider Bulgaria for instance. EU country looks good when the Embassy is evaluating a K application.

Does this gal work or is time off not an issue for her?

Some interesting ideas there re pros of going somewhere in the EU to build history.  Makes sense even if i'm not from the US.

She does work but time off is no problemo apparently.

By the way - i had no idea that in Russia they get around 30 days of annual leave per annum - AND they have a lot of public holidays too!  Lucky them!

Sorry I forgot you weren't from the States.

LOL on the time off. Yes, they are continually amazed when they find out our leave schedules and average hours worked per week. It is greeted with general disbelief that our workers would tolerate it and reject that this has any bearing on GDP, stability of businesses, lifestyle, etc.

No we know why you want to meet in another country!!!!!!!!!

They say that mothers teach their daughters everything so no harm getting a preview..... ;-)

Seriously, i think you can tell a lot about a woman by how their mother behaves and looks - and in this case i'm pleased to report that #2's mother was good fun, very considerate and had a great attitude (no gutter references intended!).

Thanks for the wishes!

Congrats! As you've put it, you have a very solid #2! Doesn't that sound like toilet humor in some way?  ;)

Mom's are often overlooked as important obstacles or potential proponents of a relationship. Don't forget the genetics aspects as well. This is often overlooked. Look at the mom and likely the daughter will be that way in a few years.

My last LTR with a RW was basically sunk in large part due to mom. We had an issue that mom put herself in the middle of. We could have resolved it ourselves if she didn't get involved. In the long run it might have been a serendipitous occurrence for me. Time will tell but I may thank her in a few years. That will be a TR that likely never gets written.

Hope your joy continues to build and your relationship is successful. Enjoy it while it lasts. Hopefully it will never end!
Take time to learn the language. Even a little can go a long ways...

Get off your butt and go! Don't make excuses why you can't do it, find a way to make it work! Always go with a backup plan too!!!

Hey WN,
this TR flew under my radar.. sorry for the late response. Glad to hear it went very well.

I don't see anything wrong with taking a trip somewhere with this lady as long as you are planning to make multiple trips.  I agree with Faux Pas' comments in that regard -- you've only scratched the surface.  I really don't see the problem with a euphoric trip together, but definitely play it smart and plan another trip after for as much time as you can manage on her home turf, developing relations normally in a natural environment.  Also I think it is very important to develop relations with the mom (when you decide you are serious about the daughter) and to do that, you need to all be on the home turf.  Plus, there's nothing quite like Mama's cookin'... mmmmmmmmmm  damn... yes.. yessssss ... um.. what?  wait, where was I?

I really am impressed that you aren't going all "gangsta-idiot" on us and refer to her exactly as what she is.. A great prospect that you feel very good about. Amen brother.

Good luck!
