There are a number of English words that may sound VERY strange to Russian ears, and are best avoided when trying to make yourself understood in the FSU in a sort of pidgin Russian (Anglussian):

ENGLISH WORD (reminds of)
- Ebay (sexual intercourse)
- Email (имел - sexual intercourse)
- Preservative (презерватив - condom)
- Speed (Синдром приобретенного иммунного дефицита = СПИД = A.I.D.S)

Equally, some Russian words may confuse Western ears:

RUSSIAN WORD (reminds of)
- но (pr.: no): can mean either 'but' or 'yes' depending on context. Hilarity ensues when you are expecting a 'yes' answer and keep hearing her say 'но'.
- первый (pr.: piervey): first, or first course. Sounds almost exactly like the American English slang term for PERVERT... Use with caution.
