On the other side, I'd ask would she be okay with a man who thought she may be a hooker, and thought of contacting an ex for a character reference?

All of this "looking under the covers" is NOT natural or human.  Perhaps it is a direct outgrowth of materialism in the first world - we want a Consumer Report before every purchase.  Or, perhaps it is a function of how easy fantasies can be fostered with internet romance.

Let's try working with these assumptions:
1 - All men are physically desirous.
2 - All single women seek stability / security.
And, then life happens.

If "good" woman met me in the USA, 99.999% chance she would run away FAST because of my questionable associations.   Hell, the same is true with most women in Colombia or Russia too - albeit to a far less degree.  BUT ALSO, I have met a butt load of "good girls" that have little virtue in fact.  Meanwhile, I have met many women in unsavory environments that are surprisingly virtuous.   It is good to remember that "All men's feet are made of clay."

My family has gone to resorts in Mexico and found many RW working there and they were real jobs in the resort.

Santo,

I looked into this a little bit and it seems it is common for both men and women to do online research for their dates.

This was just one figure I ran across

So don't feel bad for trying to find out more about her. Not sure if you can do a background check on her....but on one forum many of the women and some men who replied do background checks on all of their dates.

I think their is a RW on this forum that does backgrounds checks or just maybe "taxes paid" checks on western men for RW.

I guess its all the rage and if this puts you in the "paranoid" category.......you have plenty of company.

Maybe she does background checks, but tax info is supposed to be confidential and should require a release form signed by the checkee.

There's a plenty in that category. Here, there, and everywhere.

Unless things have changed in Russia, background checks are something that either require illegal practices or rely on rumours more than facts.
Unlike in the USA or Europe there is no electronic registration of evey move you make. That means that background checks are limited to online searches you can do yourself and tapping in to the babushka network around her home area.

I would be careful using real names and real locations here. Maybe it is just me but I sometimes worry that other people might read on RWD what I am saying and it will get around to who knows.

Income tax yes;  but lists of those delinquent on property taxes are regularly posted in newspapers and maybe available through on-line searches also.  Never tried it.

I stand corrected on the taxes paid.

It was Donna P who was doing research for others.

You made a comment earlier about not telling a girl about your income.  Here is smth for you to think of. Once I was a helping a good friend of mine to communicate with an AM. Btw, she is now happily married to a very nice guy, and he is dependently wealthy too. So early in a process she wanted to ask questions about his material situation, I advised against it, but the problem remained. Finally I came up with a  good solution that quickly grew  somewhat popular and  I had quite a few requests to do the same for other women. Its not my business, just charity work. See, If I know your name, last name, city (town) and state, I can search  public records, property appraisal websites, and digging deeper I can figure out a LOT of things about you. Not your salary, though, but if I know what home you own and how much it costs, what car you drive then based on it I can make conclusions on what your income really is. Of course there might be debts etc   and it is always a risk, but... well.. you cant always get what you want. But you can get what you need. Its just a simple knowledge of where to go look for the info.  I happened to know  all these little things. And I am ready to share with those who wants to know.

She is talking about doing research on MEN, not on women. :cluebat:

I think he knows this, Shadow.  But, she was researching their salaries, homes, etc.  She would have have had access to their tax returns, unless the works for the IRS, and they have software which checks who views returns.  Even IRS employees don't get to access information which they are not supposed to access.
