Leslie...

Thanks much.  I hear everything you have said, and I appreciate it.  I understand about the scammer sites, too.  Yes, lesson learned - actually, many lessons learned.  I was thinking with the wrong head.  I feel like a total stupid ass, but I have to move on and learn from my mistakes.

Infoman ~ One's life is as full or as empty as we ourselves make it, but it would be a real shame if others reading this thread, who have never been where you have, were to take away your impressions as being anything like the reality for most people.

I am sure that at the time, you did feel empty. It happens to all of us who get stood up on a date. Make a plan to go back, find the McDonalds, Burger King and Starbucks that nowadays infest the city and make sure that you put right that which went wrong last time.

Hello Michael,

It is long time... seem that you are dating your girl in all the major european city... not yet plan for marriage ? Seem that you have find a great woman, why wait so long ?

PS : About Paris, beware... a lot of pick-pocket... not so much different that Spain  ;) ... and if you don't know the city, taxi make 3 time the round of city before reach the destination... I know that you are both adult but a visit to the Disneyland park in Paris is a top... the Asterix park is good too ( more little )
Thanks for your suggestion, Bruno.  I took it!  Today we had a delightful time at Disneyland Paris.  My girl really enjoyed it all, and it gave us lots to discuss about American history and culture.

This was our 6th day in Paris, and we had already hit the major art musuems and historical sites.  So Disney was a great change of pace! And my girl loved the food and candy apples there :-)

Marriage? We have been dating 7 months now and we both feel comfortable with the next step.  But she is coming on a student visa in the fall 2006, so we do not have to rush into marriage. We both like the longer time period better than the 3 months the K-1 gives you...

And by the way, contrary to what others have said about Paris, it's WONDERFUL!  This is our fifth meeting and our favorite city by far.  The food is great, the people cordial and helpful, the art wonderful, and did I say the food is  great? :-)  And we have been blessed with great weather.

As I said before, to each their own.  You think it's wonderful - I don't.  End of story.

Perhaps if I was dating someone and THEN went there, like i SHOUILD have done, I would be seeing things much differently.

I would hope that a few guys, the cheerleaders, (you know who you are), will go back and re-read this thread from the beginning and admit, to themselves at least, that they haven't a clue as to what they are talking about.  I certainly don't expect an apology for the unkind things that was said to me. like; I just don't think pointing out a scam is being bitter and cynical.  If the man had listened to me, he'd be several hundred dollars richer, even more if you considered he wasted the airfare to and back from Paris, not to mention the lost vacation days he could have spent with a decent woman if he would give up on scammers from Ukraine.

Russia is where you find real RWs.

Two bits, four bits, six bits a dollar,
All for love and romance and happy endings, stand up and holler!!!

MY experience is that the girl DOES show and my experience is that girls from Ukraine ARE the best....and I've dated girls from both countries.  But the truth is that JB has his opinion and I have mine, and they are both just opinions.

GUYS--it's the girl, not the country.  So invest in her and take your time and in the end you'll be sure you are right before you committ to a life together... This means visiting her in her home town and getting to know her, spending time in the minor leagues before you take her to the big leagues and Paris...

Steve
Greetings from Paris, where it is Friday morning.  Steve, you learned a valuable lesson, and your story will help others not to move too quickly to visit girls in exotic cities before the relationship is firmly entrenched.

But I'll remind others that I am in Paris right now and my girl did get the visa to come see me in Paris from her home country of Ukraine.  That tells me that things are opening up in the EU and such visa apps are being approved. Such meetings are a real positive for those of us who wish to see our girls in sophisticated cities of the EU, after we have met them in their home towns.

It shows them what life is like outside the FSU, and bodes well for their deciding they want this life...
