... Your lady certainly gets a free pass. Proposing and expecting a sincere answer under those conditions I suspect were pretty taxing. For her to have to take all that in, EQ, DR, a proposal and give a sincere answer had to be difficult at the least. Not the most romantic setting. Go visit her in her hometown where she is warm, fuzzy, comfy and safe

Thanks FP.
I'm sure most here will agree with your assessment.
To be sure, the EQ put a huge damper on the romantic setting, but I'm not entirely sure if her reaction would have been much different without it.

Her hometown isn't exactly warm at the moment but I get your drift.  :)
I feel as if I have laid my cards on the table now, so to speak.
I wore my heart on my sleeve.

To me, the ball is in her court. I will wait to see what she says now.
If I sense she has strong feelings for me now, I would definitely make another trip to her town. But would you go without asking about the purpose/intention of the trip?

And where would you expect to stay this time around?

TIA

She knows where you stand but, you still have to win her. Inform her that you are coming. Rent yourself an apartment and gauge her reaction. Decide then to pull the trigger or not. Don't expect to stay with her unless she lives alone (I can't remember). You'll need privacy and chances are you'll need your conveniences and space. You are the only one that knows, besides her of course, how you feel about each other. Discount DR heavily, the poor girl was probably scared to death and not capable of rational thought. Give her the benefit of that doubt

Rick,

Lots of us here were thinking about you and your GF after the earthquake. Glad to hear all went well in that respect  :)
Since you and I were emailing each other, I hadn't read this Thread for quite a while. So I didn't even realize you'd taken your Lady to the Dominican until Gylden mentioned it last week!?!
What resort did you go to?
Sveta only knows too well about the long haul from Russia and back.... especially the 12 hour train ride after reaching Moscow :( This is why I would make the most out of a trip by extending the holiday by a few days at least. It's too quick for a week for our Women with that 30+ hours of travel. So good choice with the 10 days!

Don't take this as criticism, but why did you feel it necessary to ask her to marry you so soon? You only met her for the first time in December. Why the rush? Only 2 months ago you were expressing doubts when starting this Thread.
Your heart is in the right place Rick, but I think you rushed this and may have put too much pressure on her at once.
She isn't a young Girl and aside from all the usual considerations of moving to Canada she has a daughter who is still in school.
You need to relax, write her some long romantic letters, talk on the phone, skype, whatever.... and then plan a trip back to Russia for Spring.
Meet her in April or May in St.Petersberg for a romantic long weekend and then travel back to Perm with her by rail in a First Class compartment. Visit for at least 2 weeks.
The only other suggestion would to do what Lee08 did..... Get a 1 year multiple entry Business Visa and live with her in Perm. If you are capable of doing this, it's a great way to get to know each other!

Best Wishes,
Dave :)

You know what... I can hear a chorus of disagreed men but I advice to do this: call her today and make a proposal through the phone. It is not less romantic and it is the right moment just after the trip.

God bless you, kids  :P
It's your problem if you take my posts too seriously.

Unless I missed something RW, it appears to me that CanadaMan already did propose.....?

Despite all these dark clouds I didn't want them to deter my plans to propose marriage to her.

As one might have expected, she thought I was in too much of a hurry with marriage plans and so she wouldn't give an answer.

Ah right. I was writing before I had my morning coffee  :cluebat:

Then he had to ask her what she expects to do next.

She expects hime to pay for her daughter's university, LOL.

Sorry CM, couldn't help it. I really do hope things work out for the best. I just feel you are ignoring/justifying some important things.
