Kapitanleutnant.

First of all welcome to RWD.

Odessa is a beautiful place, with many stunning sights. Just an idea, there is a guy on here called Stirlitz, send him a message and sound him out, maybe he could be another option.

ForeverOptimistic

You say your about to make your first visit, and all I can think of is a slaughter house and a lamb.
Its an opinion, don't get too crazy if you disagree :)

My job entails lots of travel all over the world and I'm not quite as naive as you may think or maybe as I let on!?  I've been to Socials before (on a 10 day Moscow Tour) albeit many years ago and from what I read and see on videos, it appears to be mostly identical to today's socials, with the same concerns as back then..... is she only after the green card, is she a scammer etc, am I too old for her etc...    All those have been broached before.

I think I'll be able to hold my own while there.  :-)

Re the name Kapitanleutnant.......   Seriously???   LOL....

Re the name Kapitanleutnant.......   Seriously???   LOL....

Personally I think we have been a little harder on you than you deserve.  Usually we reserve things like this for guys who come on and tell us they have read AFA's or Hot Russian Brides website and know everything there is to know about this or when they talk about how they look 20 years younger than they are and women fall all over them.  (probably jealousy siince we are an ugly lot that scare most women off.)   Either the mention of the AFA tour or Odessa could have set that off and mentioning both created a double whammy.

You will have a blast on your tour.  Having done three of them I am quite sure of that.  I have a feeling that you haven't exactly hocked the family jewels to pay for the trip so if you have a great time and don't meet the woman of your dreams I don't think it will be the end of your world.

Looking up Stirlitz while you are there might be worth while.  He doesn't exactly operate an introduction service so I am not sure what good it will do but you may find him very helpful on your next trip.  Usually once someone gets hooked on RW there will be more trips.  If you decide to do another tour I do recommend Jack very highly.

Personally I would recommend doing a lot of reading here and to learn from the mistakes and successes of others.  Finding RWD was one of the best things that ever happened to me.   There is no one way that works for everyone but there are ways that are higher risk and have less chance of success.  You strike me as being quite intelligent and level headed and being able to learn from your own mistakes but it is usually much easier and cheaper to learn from the mistakes of others.

Have a great tour and let us know how it goes.

Thanks Turbo...

I appreciate the words.

One thing I've learned over my 50 some odd years is....   Just when I think I have it all figured out, here comes a curve ball on the outside corner.   Strike three!

This forum is a gold mine of information and should be mandatory reading for all who are considering the adventure of it all.    Thanks to gents like yourself and others (as I get to know their RWD names), at least those of us with limited experience will be able to learn from others who have gone before us.

Just to let all know.... remember I mentioned I travel for a living?   Well, I am a Captain for a large, well known international airline.  I've worked with a number of flight attds from both Russia and the Ukraine.... most all just too young for me but oh-so-easy on the eyes!   When I see one on my flight, I'll generally ask her to come up and chat and I ask questions.    I think of the several girls I've mentioned this to, surprisingly, all seem to think it's 100% scam.   They're a stubborn lot sometimes.

Odessa would be my least favorite place to look for one however. ..
About anyplace else you could pick to go would be better than Odessa however Odessa is a great vacation city.
I would agree.  I invited 6 ladies from Odessa to meet me in Kyiv.  Zero said yes.  Answer was always "no, you come here".   Practically all the ladies I invited from cities outside Kyiv (other than Odessa) would agree to go to Kyiv to meet me.

It's a German Navy - Deutsche Marine, not Luftwaffe - rank:

Quote
Kapitänleutnant is the third lowest officer's rank in the German Navy. The U.S. Navy's rank of Lieutenant is equal to Kapitänleutnant in NATO's military hierarchy (classed as OF-2). Nevertheless, a Kapitänleutnant may command smaller ships (e.g. submarines class 206A) or serve as Principal Warfare Officer on larger warships, giving the rank responsibilities more along those of a Lieutenant Commander in the U.S or Royal navies. The abbreviation of the title to "Kaleu" (contemporary usage) is used officially in verbal communication; the commander of the Type VIIC U-boat U 96 in the film "Das Boot" was of this rank, and called "Herr Kaleun" (historical usage) by his crew.

Sandro,

you are the best poster!!  I don't know how you dig up all of this information.  I still suspect that KL might fly for Lufthansa though.

I enjoy your double dealers posting.  it is amazing that so many of the women use the exact same pictures, or nearly so.  I guess they do not think they will ever get caught.

when I go to Russia next time I want to hire you as my guide.  you will probably be able to dig up all sort of intricate details about where we are going!!

Ok, just something to ponder-
Are they stubborn (yes that's entirely likely lol)
or do they perhaps understand their own culture?(just as likely- occums razor?)

Not to be Captian Obvious- but there is a reason they all feel this way ,so I wouldn't easily  dismiss their advice, while taking advice (including mine ) here.

one important distinction:
Where you bringing up pursuing RW/UW in  general way? or were their thoughts more towards you bringing up a *tour*?

You are in a position where a big agency tour seems a total waste of time to me ..
despite having done one a decade  before , and many of the fundamental "potential land mines " remaining the same, other things have changed, and have changed quite a bit.

Obviously you'll get all kinds of advise ,it's the nature of the beast :)

mine:
1.As mentioned  , I wouldn't easily brush off real UW's/RW's  you know and work with, advice.
In fact if i felt them too young, i'd see if they had some more appropriately aged friends that they felt might be a good match, and it is a bit surprising that they havn't already tried to play matchmaker on their own.

2. I wouldn't even think of Latin America, if i was 3 hours from the FSU.
That's just crazy!!!!  :D   (yes i've been to both many times)

3.If possible, I would  try and get my deposit back on the big agency tour to Odessa.
If i couldn't, i'd simply and easily write it off as money well spent by not going, dead serious!!
unless you ARE just looking for fun and wanting to see that popular city,,  for itself.
If interested in  a tour  i'd recommend Jacks./First Dream as mentioned by others,
and at the very least i'd contact him for additional contacts /agencies /terps etc for use while there in
Odessa.

4. I'd take one of the  nice flight attendants , to Crimea.
 :)

Good Luck!
