Now I am learning that the "just disappearing" act can also occur far into a relationship.  To me that is unacceptable behavior.

From my experience, the word "disappear" understates what happens.  "Vaporize" is a better description.

As others said, this is Russian mentality.  To date RW you must be prepared to accept it, that and some other quirks.

So I am on a very steep learning curve. I seem to be successful in meeting women on the internet but I am not enjoying great success in the personal meetings. But at this time, I am too busy writing a wide range of women to stop and calibrate by approach. BIG MISTAKE!

I'll get to this in a second.

The next woman lived very close to me. <snip>

For the next weekend, I made plans with another Russian woman. <snip>

Where is your area? Part of NYC?

Girls from Brooklyn?

While all this was going on with the Russian ladies in my area, I was planning a trip to Odessa Ukraine. A friend of mine in Europe suggested we met in Odessa.

This would have been a great opportunity to get your feet wet. Too bad you cancelled it.

After the New York experience, I decided I was not a WMVO guy. I concentrated my search in the Odessa area. Again I was writing to many women and again I was having a very difficult time telling who was truly interested and who was not.

Bingo.

I'm not getting in the WOVO vs WMVM argument either. However, it has been said many times (more than I want to remember) that each method can work depending on the person. You have just stated having difficulty telling who was interested. Me thinks that you would be better served by taking your time and figuring one lady at a time a.k.a. WO,V? (figure the visit part later.)

Personally, I could not do more than one at a time. I could not keep my ducks in a line. For others, it is a breeze.

My point is your opening line: "So I am on a very steep learning curve." You'll have to figure what best applies to you. You can read many different approaches here. If you want to avoid 20+ pages of flames and inanity, just ask a question. We'll create more pages for you. But these are fresh pages.

Remember, many people are here (trying) to help you.

To argue with a man who has renounced the use and authority of reason, and whose philosophy consists in holding humanity in contempt, is like administering medicine to the dead. Thomas Paine - The American Crisis 1776-1783
