My father was a teacher.. during the 'Hey Man' days...  when a student addressed him as 'Hey Man', he would respond 'You can address me any way you want as long as you put a Mr. in front..  Mr. Man will do just fine.'

I think what Doll highlights is that respect is a mutual thing, something to be earned over a time and not given in an instant.

I am American, and never left this country until I was 41.    I OFTEN FEEL I AM NOT WELCOME HERE


After living in south america the better part of the last 3 years,  $hit, when I go to places here ... people give ME the cold shoulder and a little attitude!!!   I was surprised.  Now I realize it is MY fault.  I have made THEM uncomfortable with long hair, an ear ring, and shoes that have toes and are not plastic! LOL

Sounds a little incongruous.  You  have long hair and ear ring and yet don't wear sandals . . . in Florida yes?

Many Florida people have long hair and ear rings.  The shoes they wear depend upon what Goodwill charity has given them.

Gator you should have caught by now that Russian people are direct. That means the concept of 'politically correct' is alien.
This being direct will often be confused with being impolite in Western Europe and the USA, where we are taught not to put everything in to drect wording.

It's about the behavior, not the emotion.  Whether someone has actually had time to earn respect, we are taught to BEHAVE as if they already have, until THEY behave in a way which shows they don't deserve it.

You are correct. Lily is nice probably 100% of the time and there are others. Moon Goddess is as well. Being nice on a forum 100% of the time is quite an achievement and should be applauded. Personally, I applaud those who are nice AND those who tell it like it is or as they see it. Both equally valuable to those seeking information on FSUW
