Hi Bill,

I use both and like them both. Vonage for the US, Canada, Puerto Rico and some European countries - UK, Ireland, France, Italy and Spain. I use Residential Premium Unlimited Plan - $24.99

And Skype more with Russians who have internet at home and who have an account there. Quality and connection is very good in my case. The only minus of having everything through the internet is that IF it is down you are stuck, but my husband has a cell from his company, so we use that in extreme situations.

Also i heard Vonage is being sued, it hasn't told on the service yet but it might go down and become less popular too. It is fine right now with me. They say that comcast has similar service, but I haven't researched that yet.

If I was a man who has already found a nice Russian lady or is engaged to one, but she is still in Russia waiting for visa, I would buy her a computer and a monthly internet connection and sign her up with Skype, and here you go. Any time - talking, IM, and can even connect camera on both sides and SEE each other. After she leaves and joins you in the US her parents and relatives can keep using this system, because she will be the one who would want to talk to them later too from the US. It is the best present you can give her. Good thing would be also if BOTH of you save for that, and if SHE shows her interest and invests in this too.

On initial stages it is probably easier to use good calling cards.

I've often given links here to whatever I thought was useful at the moment.

I always thought that anyone who found value in these links would simply bookmark them and use them as necessary.

We can attempt to guide the freshmen through every possible situation, however, we cannot, everybody is different.  When he gets on a plane he's on his own.   Good luck to him, and I'll help him sort out the problems after the fact, but I can do nothing beforehand.

At least he got on a plane.

My original advice was in 2007 but a lot of Anastasia's links are still pretty
