DC Trip Report
« on: August 20, 2009, 04:45:00 PM »
OK, so a little background on me: I'm 26, live near the Washington D.C. area, and began trying to pursue RW”s back in May. This forum has been a help to me. I have not been to Europe yet, the only real “hardcore” travelling I have been to is Asia so far. I had heard that D.C. had a good amount of RW's and I'm not in a position to travel to the FSU yet, so I wanted to pursue one locally.

So I joined Rambler. I sent out a bunch of messages, and got some decent responses. One was from a 23 year old in St. Petersburg who was moving to D.C. in July. We emailed back and forth every day for about five weeks. Mostly it was just getting to know you stuff, her sister had married an American and moved to the South. This girl was great, sweet, smart and funny. So we were emailing and things were going well. Then she decides not to move to D.C. and move with her sister in the South, so that fell apart. I would have liked to meet at least and see where things progressed. But such is life.

So I was writing with a local grad student who had recently broke up with her boyfriend. She is cute, smart and sweet, which is how I like girls ;) A gigantic help to me was conversing with Sculpto. He gave me a TON of information about cultural differences, how to woo these girls, how to understand them, etc. I had only dated AW's and at my age, mostly we just go to bars and drink :) With RW's it is different. Again, I've never even been to Europe, don't know many RW's and my main understanding of Russian culture came through majoring in history at college and reading a lot of Dostoyevsky ;)

So after a month of writing to this girl, we decide to meet. It was mainly due to Sculpto's advice on how to deal with her. Simply put, I am a newbie and he knows his stuff. I'm fine when I sit down next to someone and can just talk and be myself. It's the other stuff in this process, knowing to bring a thoughtful gift, which side of the road to make sure she walks on, where to take her, when to call, when to text, etc. that I didn't understand and Sculpto's advice was invaluable to me.

So we met and talked for five hours straight. It was great, we really clicked. I don't want to drag this on too long, but tonight we had our fifth date and things are progressing. This girl is the smartest girl I've ever met. She is also very nice, clever, funny and sweet. She is everything I like in a girl. We have not become “official” but things are going in that direction. Even if we are just friends, I still will be able to meet other RW's through her. I am taking things slow but in the next week I will know if we will become an item. If anyone has any questions or anything please post, I really appreciate the advice I've been given on this forum.

Sounds like you've got the right attitude.  (But no need to decide if you're an "item" next week - you'll be there when you stop counting which date you're on  ;D )

Hope it continues to go well!

I was really into what you were writing, right up until the part about "Sculpto really helped me" :) Now I know you are DOOMED ! ! ! ! ! !  LOL.

That is just a joke !  !

Best of everything to you, hope it all works out the way you want it to :)

just remember that firstly she is an individual, secondly she is a girl, and thirdly she is russian. Approach things with this attitude, i.e. if ther eis a problem, first ask yourself how should i behave with this exact individual (based on your experience with her), only then ask how to behave with a girl, and only after that rememeber she is russian :P Cuz many people seem to think there is some kind of universal recipe to approach a girl, only because she is russian
