Fax to Moscow, HOW????
« on: September 22, 2009, 08:47:59 PM »
For lack of a better spot.. I post my question here..

I need to fax some documents to "A".  Of course I am a neanderthal and do not have an actual fax machine so I am using fax.com which has always worked well locally.

The fax machine I am sending to is at her friends office.  They will be in at 10 am to receive the fax.

I got a fail on first attempt, but, it is night time and the machine might be turned off.. but.. that sort of defeats the purpose.. but who knows on that..

Anyway.. I have an 8 prefix on the number they gave me.. but neither one knows how to fax into Russia internationally... when I call her on the cell phone its a 7...

Any thoughts on how to number it properly so the fax will connect to the machine in Moscow?

The "8" appears to be an error....

Moscow fax numbers begin with the usual "7"....

Why don't you scan the documents and email them?  The quality if better than a fax.
After the fall of communism, the biggest mistake Boris Yeltsin's regime made was not to disband the KGB altogether. Instead it changed its name to the FSB and, to many observers, morphed into a gangster organisation, eventually headed by master criminal Vladimir Putin. - Gerard Batten

The "8" appears to be an error....

Moscow fax numbers begin with the usual "7"....

Normally if I can't get through with a "7", I use 8. Sometimes when I call mobile numbers having the prefix 7 and it doesn't work, 8 will work.

Sculpto, give it a try and see what happens.

BTW 8 is a normal prefix for many mobile numbers (like mine) and numbers that are not in a "7+495" area code for Moscow.

Could be a case of misinformation from them, though.

Why don't you scan the documents and email them?  The quality if better than a fax.

Better, easier, and cheaper if you can do this.

Like everyone I don't understand why to fax documents when you can simply emial them or to put in the net for downloading.

Local people in Russia use 8 when they are calling abroad but little of them know that the international code for Russia to call in is 7.

Mobile phones inside work with both "8" or "+7"

Confusing, I know.
It's your problem if you take my posts too seriously.

be sure to check the international code.
If its a Moscow office fax, +7-495 should be the correct.
But you never know. :D

I did send her the info in email also.. but she wanted a fax too.. but.. as it turned out we never needed it.  BTW.. I was going to use an online fax service.. cost is very low.. covered in the 4.99 monthly fee...

The Mex Embassy tried very hard to cooperate, but, two things screwed it up.

First, because she is still formally a student they wanted family proof of solvency.  STUPID since "A" supports her Mother..

Second, we just waited too long to get the complete info.  Had we known a few weeks ago I could have gone down to Tijuana and proven MY solvency to the Mex Migra and then gotten a permanent tourist visa for her... but.. that process takes 3-4 weeks and we were scheduled to leave on the 11th.

But.. silver linings always!  First of all it turned out that Iberia had changed her return flight which required an overnight stay in Madrid.. no visa to leave airport.. yucko.. so, Iberia has refunded in full the cost of the flight..

My flight to Mex will just be saved for later use...

And.. we rebounded well.. Thailand here we come!

7 is the Country Code for Russia. 8 by itself is not a Country Code. The 8 should be a 7.
