Start2,

Medicine's not my field, but we do have a few med dictionaries around, but they're English-Russian and not the other way. The first word is a stumper:
usually the root изо implies "of" or "due to" and the
эхо seems to mean what it sounds like, "echo". The rest
of the phrase comes out "formation with hydrophiliac
rim (or "thin layer" perhaps).

I'm a translator, but medicine is not my field.

look it up on Google as

isoechogenic structure

appears to be an adjective meaning something identified via ultrasound.

гидрофильный is: hydrophilic, hydrophilous, oleophobic, hydrophil(e), water-retentive

ободок is: thin rim / border, fillet; band

These definitions are from lingvo.

But if I were you I'd contact my local American doctor (if you're in the US) for authoritative answers.

Thanks for the input and as I have done some more research, all your answers have been correct and I wanted to be sure because in the beginning all I had was russian words.  Also, thank you Elen.

Here is what we are facing. Back in the spring my wife's dad had colon cancer. He had the operation and was beginning to feel good again. 2 days ago he went in for a routine check up and they only did an ultrasound at the time. With this test they found 2 spots on his liver. They immediately recommended chemotherapy. He witnessed others on chemo during his stay in the hospital when he had colon surgery. He does not want chemo. It's quite debilitating.  It's not unusual for post colon cancer patients for this cancer to spread or metatasize to the liver. In the biggest percentage of patients, liver cancer in terminal. Chemo does not cure but only prolongs life a few extra months. Those extra months can be a hell. If in fact he has liver ca., he could have 3 to 6 months to live. He does not know this yet. It is my wish that they do a CT liver biopsy before chemo to be sure. I'm not sure they will do this yet.  My wife desires that he take homeopathic treatment, however, these do not cure it either.

You can imagine how upset she is with this new development. She is extremely close to her dad.  Many thoughts have gone through my mind. If in time I feel she needs to be there with him, I desire that she goes. We have not discussed this yet as this knowledge is new. She has not even had here documents approved yet. AOS etc. I am not sure how I would go about getting her back if she would need to go back to Ukr. I guess I need to research that as well. If her dad is terminal, I want her to spend as much time as possible with him. I wish I would have more time to know this great and wonderful man, but I myself can not leave for an extended period of time. His daughter needs to be near. She would also be great support for her mom. I had many thoughts today. As much as I desire for her to be there, there was a point where I was feeling selfish and do not want her to go. But then, we have our life together after all this and to send her home will be the right thing to do.

I will keep those that are interested updated. Maybe I can come here and get some things off my chest from time to time. For those of you that pray, we will appreciate your prays  for Leonid Gura. He is a fantastic family man and a helpfull friend to many.

Start2,

My sisters and I went through this very same
trial in 1993 with our late father. Yes, sending her
home will be the right thing to do - failing to do so
could break her spirit and ultimately, your love.

For us, the last few months with Dad were precious,
a time to recollect, make amends and prepare ourselves for life without him. Elvira and I will keep Leonid and both of you in our prayers.

Just thought I'd post a little update on my wifes dad, Leonid. To back track a bit, it was about this time last year we learned he had colon cancer. The good news was that the colon cancer was excised and had not spread much because it was caught in time. The bad news was that 5 months later he went for a check-up and they noticed 2 spots on his liver. Why was this bad?, because it's common for colon ca's to mets to the liver. It's seldom curable, and is aggressive in growth,  however, there are treatments. The popular medical world usually prescribes chemo therapy. This usually does not cure , only prolongs life for an x number of months. Leonid witnessed what chemo does to patients during his stay in the hospital for his colon ca. He wanted no part of that and I can't blame him. Doctors suggested no other treatment. We then started an extensive research on the net. We found an herbal treatment that has had mixed success. I assume it depends on when the lesions are detected. At the same time, Leonid was introduced to a woman in Kharkov that is a herbalist and  medical Dr. and is well respected. Leonid chose to use her and the methods that have been successful. She would not start treatments until another test was done and she would read the results. The first treatments were tea's that were made from some concoction of herbs. They were self administered at home. I assume it was to prepare the body for the next treatment. It was more aggressive and was actually introducing a poison into the body beginning with with small doses and building each day. The poison was from the hemlock plant/bush. The body has the ability to accept small doses at a time and gradually build immunity. It's crtical that directions for use are strict. It starts with the making of a tea. 1 drop in some water the first day, 2 drops the next and so on and then working back down to 1 drop per day. some people will go from 1 to 15 or 1 to 40 drops. This can be an extended period of time as you can see. during this time about every 3 weeks, Leonid would get an ultrasound to check on the growth or non-growth of the lesions/spots on his liver. He would then take those results to this woman and she would decide to keep adding drops each day or start the downward trend.

Here's how the body reacts to hemlock. It has the ability to build immunity. The body begins to fight the poison. The good cells can regenerate but the poison will attack the bad cells, ie cancer cells and kill them. No, this is not a cure all but there has been much success in certain patients. There is no hair loss as with chemo and although there are days with a sick feeling, it's no where near the effects that chemo make the body feel.

In the beginning, Leonids lesions appeared agressive and fast growing. Todays news, Leonid made it to 20 drops/day and then worked his way back to 1 drop/day. There were 3 ultrasound checks during this time. The results are positive at this time. The lesions miraculously stopped growing and even shrunk minutely in size. Leonid feels better although there is some weakness as expected. His body has been fighting the poison and this takes alot out of him. He didn't tell the medical doctors of this treatment because they are like most cancer docs here. If it's not chemical or radiation treatment, then it's quackery(sp). They are amazed that the growth seems to have stopped. He will tell them in time but not now. It's possible they would no longer check him with ultrasound if they knew his private treatment. for now he is taking some herbal vitamins to build his strength. In 6 weeks he will take another regimen of hemlock as a precautionary measure and then time will tell. But for today he feels better and his mental status has improved exponentially.

Has he been cured? It's difficult to tell but with the results seen so far, the cancer cells that are known to be typically aggressive, have been at the least, stymied. We praise God for this. We hope that in several months we can give an excellent report.

Ken, Elena, Vaughn, and Elen, thanks for your support.

This is good news, start - I trust you and your wife will realize some peace at this juncture, and that Leonid's progress continues. If you're comfortable with PMing me his mailing address in Cyrillic, we'd like to send him a short letter of encouragement.

Vaughn,

Sorry I haven't been near the forum lately. The past few months have been extremely busy and when home, there's much to do. What a great offer to write Val's dad. I know he's a private kind of man but I'll run that by Val and she can ask.

Today another ultrasound was done and there's still no growth on the liver. Tomorrow he starts another round of hemlock to be sure. We feel he is recovering and I know his spirits are high.

Today he also revealed for the first time to the Dr. the treatment he decided on and the Dr. seemed quite impressed. Many of the Dr.'s there are of the same mindset as the ones here. If some sort of pharmaceutical isn't used,(ie chemo) then it's quackery. In the herbal field hemlock has many success stories but since it's inexpensive the med field doesn't seem to want to give it credence.  I'm not willing to say it has totally cured yet, but I am quite impressed so far. Mets to the liver is usually aggressive and terminal but so far, so good. Praise the Lord.

Very very good news!!!!! Leonid"s doctor has given him a clean bill of health. His doctor has crossed out the original diagnosis of liver mets(cancer) , and decided to call it hemangiomas. He did not give credit to the hemlock treatment I assume because it's not scientific medicine but thats' not important to us. Leonid  used an alternative to what modern science says to use( chemotherapy) and has defeated the mets. The hemlock seems to have stopped the mets dead in it's tracks. His blood work is perfect, the mets lesions have not grown in months and he feels so much better. Thanks to all that wrote and wished him well and kept him in their thoughts and prayers.
