Thanks everyone for the feedback and well wishes. I am very excited to get back over there in just 7 weeks. I purchased my plane ticket today and this time I will be visiting her home city and meeting all of her family and friends. We will be spending 2 weeks in Novosib and another 2 weeks traveling to Tomsk and Krasnoyarsk by train.

That was great to read your trip report, Dogspot! It made me feel romantic and remember our first meeting in december 2005, i even made a note to reread the trip report that my boyfriend wrote to me, so your posts got me back into the mood of those days. It is against the law to charge different prices for the same service for locals and foreigners. Perhaps visitors can file a complaint.

Is this a sweeping generalization? "Tourist prices" are posted openly.

Perhaps it's against the law everywhere except for Moscow and St. Pete. These price differences are clearly posted at every museum I have been to in either city.

I have not encountered that in Ukraine, although I certainly did in Russia.
I understood Yushenko signed law, edict or some such a few years back to abolish dual price system for tourists.

My experience was in Kiev...my fiance would have me keep my mouth shut (and no smiling) when she bought tickets. IN that vein, I tend to dress to fit in when I am there.

Understood, but I am asking about your experience AFTER the action taken by Yushenko to put an end to dual pricing system.

For instance, I have been to Ukraine several times in past couple of years  and have never once been charged a higher price at such places as museums, opera, ballet, philharmonia, etc.  Yes, of course I get charged higher prices by apartment owners.

I can't personally speak for the last two years - I've been raising house monkeys.
