Wife wants to be an arms dealer
« on: October 28, 2009, 06:18:17 PM »
Can anybody tell me where to go to find an answer:

Nata has a friend back in Odessa who has an OOOOOOOLD non-working Colt (late 1800s) that she has been wanting for years. The guy has finally given up on finding a gunsmith there to repair, and has agreed to sell it.
How can she bring it here?
Experience is what you get when you didn't get what you wanted.

late 1800s ?

She will need an official export permit from the RF Ministry of Culture.

Russian Law Export or import of cultural valuables (there were some changes in the Law)

Export Certificate for cultural property can be obtained directly from the Ministry of Culture and Mass Communications of the Russian Federation. Cultural valuables declared for export are subject to mandatory expertise.

Have it sent to a FFL(Federal Firearms License) Dealer in your area,,,if it is a Colt it is prob worth a good amount. Get a photo and send to me. Parts can be found here in the US.

Getting the legal documents to own a firearm in Ukraine are a major hassle, so much so that are people who charge $500-$1000 to do everything for you, you are required by law to store privately owned firearms in a gun safe.  Therefor very few people actually comply with the law, so likely the gun is not legally registered.  It would likely not be legal to export it either.

However, you can disassemble it into separate parts that would not arouse x-ray suspicion and send it from Ukraine to America via Meest in a large box full of misc. household items.

BTW, in Odessa you can go to some of the sporting goods stores and buy a deactivated 1895 Mosin-Nagant "Trophy" and own it with just a single form.  The deactivation includes barrel, cylinder and hammer modifications.  You can buy all there parts in the USA off the internet for about $60, and in 30 minutes have a fully functioning firearm.

I have a Mint 1933 dated Mosin-Negant with the bayonet,,,paid $80 bucks,,,looks new.
You can find them from 90-190 now and ammo is still cheap.

Krimster,
one piece at a time is what we figured as well

story goes that someone in that guy's family was with Red army in WWII---met up with US unit; and got the gun as an exchange

Whoa, what happened these past few months?  Odessa is now part of the Russian Federation and USA-made items are now part of Russian Cultural Property?

I assume Rob, that you've talked to a firearms dealer near you for the information you need on this transaction.  Congratulations too, on your choice of spouses.  Few women appreciate the beauty and history of an old colt revolver.

Sorry, my fault that I did not look where aikorob's wife is from. Ukraine also has the Law on Export and import cultural valuables and btw it is not so much different from the Russian Law. And probably he and his wife  already has found it.

Your comment regarding "USA-made items..." is just beyond your "talent"  ;)

Ronnie read the Ukraine Law particularly the definition of the cultural valuables  ;)
