Our story
« on: November 05, 2009, 02:51:32 AM »
I would like to share our story with you all, maybe you have heard such before.
I never used an agency, if fact I only took a look at some web sites a couple of times. I allways felt funny when looking through those profiles, it made me feel like I was looking for a new car or something like that. I couldn't imagine what the women were feeling, like some advertisement or some sort of pet in a pet store.
(Please don't get excited at me as I am only describing honestly my thoughts at the time. I can see from many examples that it can function just fine and produce some wonderful results) These are just my experiences and perspectives.
Anyway at the time I was using ICQ to chat my friends/contacts as I am living in Norway but having lived a, which I am sure makes people shudder as well.
What I liked

Anyway at the time I was using ICQ to chat my friends/contacts as I am living in Norway but having lived and worked in many other countries I liked to use ICQ to stay in touch. My friend was married to someone he met on ICQ. so I decided to try to meet some women there too. (which I am sure makes people shudder as well)
What I liked about it was that often I didn't even see what the person looked like, before I had a chance to talk to them for a while. Of course I believe that physical attraction is a big part of a relationship, the intellectual side is important too.

Anyway I met my wife and it happened that I felt something strong right from the beginning and so did she, so we didn't waste any time and met about two months after our first chat.
I didn't feel that it was so important to see Ukraine for myself, because if things were to work out we would most likely live here in Norway. (ah yes she is  from Ukraine by the way)
At that time citizens from the US needed a visa to visit Ukraine but not Poland and she needed only some simple visa which was easy to get, so our first meeting was in Warsaw.  OK blah blah. I talk too much  :)
After our meeting we hit it off so well that we concentrated on using time for her to travel here, for periods of one month to three months at a time. The reasoning was to allow her to get a good understanding of what it was like here. At the same time I showed her everything concerning my financial workings and such.
My main purpose was to allow her to have the best possible understanding of what it would be like to be married to me and living here, to attempt to avoid disappointments or surprises.
I think it was a good approach, as we found out so many interesting things about the differences between life here and life in Ukraine. (for example it took some time to explain why people had loans on their houses here as it is very common in Ukraine that if you own a house or apartment, you actually own it) We had some fun times with all of this, but also I think it made her feel very comfortable to know so much and give her input.
It wasn't until after about three and a half years later that I actually went to Ukraine, but that is another story. I better stop now as it can just grow wings.
hope you get to know us a little better.

Nice story; thanks for sharing.

However, such stories serve to remind us just how different the situation is for those who live on the European side of the Atlantic.

What those who live there are able to do is just a dream for those of us on the West side of the Atlantic.

WOW Gylden! A very interesting story. How many years ago did you met your wife? Because it seems that you are married for many years already and before it you knew her for at least 4 years.

Anyway it would be great if you told more. And welcome to the board!!!!!

Mars,
Your right it is easier for traveling from europe, immigration on the other hand is probably more or less the same.
 NJ,
I first chatted with my wife 6 years and one month ago. We met face to face for the first time in January in Warsaw, Poland (three months after we started to chat). It was quite an interesting adventure. It was to be a long weekend trip, two nights just to see if we felt the same after to meet in person. Short and sweet, and if we didn’t for some reason connect well not so much to endure. She wasn’t so keen on flying and so she when she went to the travel agency they suggested that she purchase a ski weekend to Krakow, Poland by train (it was actually more than a weekend as the train travel was one whole day each way). Then she left the group and took a fast train to Warsaw to meet me. I would fly to Warsaw and check into the hotel and then go to the train station to meet her. Sounds like a good solid plan right? Well the first thing that happened was my flight had two connections and we got delayed at the final connection from Copenhagen. No problem because we were both carrying mobil telephones, so I called her and told her the situation and we agreed that she would go to the hotel and wait for me. During the delay at the airport I did the worst possible thing…I dropped my telephone and it quit working!! Then they announced that it looked like our flight was going to be cancelled!! I can’t describe the feeling I had at that point. What would she think? I no longer had any way to contact her!! Her number, the number to the hotel, everything was on my telephone! It was going poorly at best! I managed to call a friend, whos’ telephone number I had in my memory, he went to the internet and found the number to the hotel. I called them and gave them the message that I might not show up until tomorrow because of the cancelled flight. They were very nice and helped us out. Normally they won’t let anyone check in without a credit card, much less spend the night. Well I was just hoping that she would believe all of this, quite a crazy chain of events!! Later that evening we got a surprise they announced that the flight would now leave at 10:30 !!  When I arrived I checked in and went up to the room and knocked on the door. Neither one of us will ever forget the look on each others face when she opened the door. I think we were both in a little shock! It turned out to be a fantastic weekend and the start of something that to this day just keeps getting better. I don’t know what I ever did to deserve someone like her, but I am not going to argue!
We got married one year after that and she moved to Norway with her two children,
We will have been married for 5 years in Feb.
I finally went to Ukraine with her this summer to Yalta, my first trip. What a fantastic place!

OMG this is SO ROMANTIC!!!! It would not be so romantic if not such a chain of accidental events. Congratulations to you and your wife!
