ukrainian visiting U.S.
« on: December 13, 2005, 05:04:10 PM »

I am interested in how hard it is to have my girlfriend come and visit me here in the U.S. I will see her sometime next year but really would like to see her sooner.

would a bond help in getting her visa to visit for a couple of weeks here in the U.S.

I dont know, but i heard that posting a 5 - 10 thousand dollar bond will help!!

I'm uk but from what I've heard it's really hard to get a tourist visa for RW to US. But the rules are the same:

She must be able to support herself

She must intend to return

If you can prove those.......

Oh and not wanting to deflate you or anything but calling her your 'girlfriend' when you've not even met is a bit desperate sounding. Like my mate the great Andrewfi says - 'penfriend'

Have you called her? Or just emails?

A bond would be of absolutely no help.  In fact, there is not even a method for doing this (posting a bond).  The sole determining factor is that she must be able to show that in all probability she will return to Ukraine and not overstay the period of time specified by her visa.

It is not easy for a young single Ukrainian woman to get a US tourist visa.  That said it is not impossible either.  A good job, family ties, owning property, and a prior history of travel to Western Europe all help.

My fiance' came to the US to vist me this past August.  She is 42 (looks no more than 36) ;-) and met all of the above criteria.  She was issued a 5 year multiple entry visa.

I recently had the pleasure(?) of spending some time in the American citizen's services area at the US consuate in Kiev.  While there I overheard several male US citizens trying to convince the Foreign Service Officer on duty to issue a young, single, Ukrainian a US tourist visa.  One even attempted to bribe the officer.  None of these people were successful.

From what I observed the applicant is issued or denied a visa on their own merits. Not on the amount of money in someone elses bank account.

Your best bet is to be patient, get there as soon as you can, and then get her here on a K-1.

If you can get her a tourist visa, that would be great, bot don't bank on it.  Let's face the reality:  Most women who meet the criteria for a tourist visa, the family ties, the property ownership, the good job, would not be the type looking for a western husband in the first place.

I can relate to how hard it is to maintain a long distance relationship.  Been there.  Done that.  Doing that now.

With my wife, Angel Eyes and daughter, Smiley Girl. I decided, I had been to visit her enough times
in Voronezh (4 times already) and that I am too tall, but she is just the right size for traveling on
international flights.

My step one was to plan a trip to Barcelona, where both her and Smiley girl would get a Schengen Visa.
I had never been to Spain so I thought it was a great idea. I sent her money (something like $5K) to
put in her account, so that she would look wealthy enough to be an international traveler.

So they got the Visa's, but my company fired all the salesmen in a two week period of time. So I stayed
in the USA while they went to Spain. In about 2 weeks, I had another job with better pay and I specifically
explained my need to travel periodically to visit my fiancée.

Now both girls had an important Stamp in their passports showing that they were good girls that traveled
internationally then went back home at the end of their trip. Next we applied for a US tourist Visa for
Angel Eyes, she was leaving Smiley Girl home with Mamma. Angel Eyes came to visit for a month,
then went home. Now she was an experienced US traveler with the stamps to prove that she was
a good girl. The next trip both girls came.

That's a long way to get'er done, but it worked for me.
