I am looking for info on Tashkent. Any help would be appreciated. I am especially interested in finding a flat for a reasonable rate. Thanks in advance!

I've used this apartment rental company a few times. They are good people, speak English and reliable. They've always waited and picked me up at the airport even when the plane arrives 2 AM in the morning and/or 2 hours late. If you're flying through London, expect to be late.

How dare you  leave the well trodden paths thru Ukraine and Russia and show some individuality .  You could well be doomed in one fashion or another. Not that it's necessarily a bad thing.   When ya leaving for this trip?

I've been to Russia 3 times, Ukraine 4 times and Uzbekistan 4 times. On average, the women including the Russians living in Uzbekistan are quieter, more respectful and have better manners than their western FSU counterparts.

JR, take your lady out and do family oriented activities. Go to the circus, walk around the main/Amir Temur(sp?) square, ballet, or opera. Invite her family out to a restaurant especially if they invite you over for dinner. Read my thread to Uzbekistan with my ex fiancee for some of the things I did. I've posted many photos there. I've also bought her a coat worth hundreds of dollars. The ladies reading this will be happy to know I'm not cheap but generous to buy someone I'm in a relationship with a coat. I've also bought her a computer and three vacations to other countries. The photo of her old and new coat is in there. My photo is in there too. I know some of you ladies are wanting to see how ugly I look so go ahead look and make fun of me.

I agree with Billy, been around the block for the last 15 years or so in all three countries. married Unrainian this time. The RW from Tashkent dissapeared.  Tashkent women are fine, I have an ex gf there with an empty flat if you are interested. Basically you can find a place for 200- 300 USD per month. The exchange rate is about $150,000 UZbek sum to 100 USD Be prepared to carry a few hundred thousand on you in 1000 bills.  In other words you need a breifcase to carry all the cash you will need to enjoy a nice date out to a friday night club. Taxi is cheap,  we could go across town for fifty cents to a dollar each way. Prices are cheap for some things, gas for the car is the same price as here. Russian or Uzbek bread is 3 loaves for a dollar, fruits and vegies are plentiful and cheap, it will start to snow soon if it hasnt already, dress warm. The women are classy and expect expensive gifts. They are willing spend $100 on a bottle of perfume and not eat for a week to make up for the expense.

Should we now scum with green envy because BillyB bought his lady a coat?  ;D Even ten coats won't make you less cheap if you are. Why speaking of coats in this thread, I find it hilarious. Better stand in the front of a mirrow and repeat constantly "I am generous". It will bring more effect, trust me  :P

LoL. First time at a money exchange booth, apartment manager asked me how many dollars do you want to exchange. I told him I'll start with $200. He said something to his son in Russian and I asked where's your son going. He replied "to get you a bag."

Taxi is cheap,  we could go across town for fifty cents to a dollar each way.

I never spent more than $3 to get across town edge to edge in this huge city of 2.4 mil people.

Uzbek bread is 3 loaves for a dollar,

I'm not much of a bread eater but that bread is some of the best I've ever eaten. I would eat it everyday. Make sure you buy fresh bread JR. In Uzbek restaurants I ate horse. Not bad tasting. If you go to a Korean re staraunt, you can order dog. Lots of Koreans in Tashkent thanks to Stalin and the need for slave labor during WW2.

The world is a big place...if I find my Mrs. Right right here in Los Angeles I'll marry her. If she was born in Tashkent so be it. She seems great (on paper) and we should mesh well. On the phone things still seems great. Meeting face to face is the only real way to know for certain.

If that is so then why is it that the majority of long term contacts that I have established are from Moscow? Most of them would like to have the opprotunity to explore a furtherance of a relationship but I'm just not feeling it or there is 'something' that keeps me from allowing it to go there.

Brave Girl....do you need help removing that huge chip you are carrying around on your shoulder?

Yes...it would be. Even though it's against my better judgement. But I will have a back up plan. Not in Taskent but in Moscow, or maybe Donetsk...you still there Daveman?

I was planning on a minimun of one week but trying for two at the end of this month but now it's looking like it won't happen at all. We were talking on the phone everyday and now she has vanished....

Crap happens. I don't know how the guys who do a WOVO can dedicate weeks and months to one woman who can vanish instantly at any given day. I know you're not a WOVO but this stuff happens more often than not.

I know a lot of ladies I'm communicating with can easily vanish. They may find a local boy they met on the street, or make a commitment to another foreign man. or have a change of heart and decided they can't live in another country or don't want to get married yet. Women tend to change their minds more than their underwear.

So you've lost both phone and internet contact with her? I know the phones in Uzbekistan can quit working for a while. The phones may ring but she may not hear the ringing on her end.

Anything is possible and I'll continue to attempt to contact her. But she hasn't responded to my emails from a week ago which she said she would do, hasn't been on the dating site where I met her in over two weeks and the phone just rings with no answer. I am calling her at the agreed upon time and last I spoke with her she requested I call her the next day. Not passing judgement as anything can happen but not standing still either.

Men get vanished even more often. Everybody who is puzzled why, the answer is: "cherche la femme"
