UK Permanent Resident Visa
« on: December 14, 2005, 01:06:11 PM »
My wife got UK residence permit earlier this week.  We are finally through with the immigration section of the UK Immigration and Nationality Directorate :)

The process is not time delayed as it is in the USA.  You pay £500 and you get same day service!  The slow (around 6 weeks) postal service is £365 and not IMHO worth the wait.  Filling in the form - SET(M) and providing the documentary evidence is straightforward but you MUST read the guidelines!

The form and evidence has to be 100% correct.  Not 85%, not even 99%

Be prepared to build up a folder of evidence (think legal submission standard) It will take several evenings.  If you can't be bothered with all the detail - hire a lawyer.  An extra £1000 should cover the fees.   The civil servants work under strict guidelines.  Their decisions are not personal.  Bitching will just get the application declined and you will have the opportunity of paying another £500 to apply again :(

If anyone reading this wants specific advice PM me.  I have bome an expert on this topic but now this is now useless knowledge for us....

In January 2007 we get to go around the loop one final time with the nationality section.  I printed off the form from the website - all 52 pages of it.  Natasha will have to attend an evening course next year and pass an English exam.  She will have to work on her written English.  Then she has to attend a course on UK Constitution and culture and pass the new examination.....

When the BBC asked a sample of born and bred Britains to take this exam over 80% failed.

I took a sample test on the website and failed too:hairraising:

Then Natasha has to attend a ceremony and swear allegiance to her soverign majesty Elizabeth 2 and she becomes a British citizen :)

We could be through all of this by July 2007.

What will we do then with all our copious free time
