Lady Gaga toured Europe in 2008 and 2009.  She did a couple shows in Zurich in spring 2009 and tickets were cheap and it was not sold out.  Now good tickets at some venues in USA going for more than $1,000 usd a piece. 

She became famous in Europe before USA.  But she became famous fast.

That's a perception of the "old".  Most North American teens knew "Just Dance", and Gaga rose through the charts when it was first released in the spring of 2008, before Gaga toured Europe.

I did see  the "Telephone" video this morning [the 9 1/2 minute version with Beyonce.]

Again, "old people" thinking.  For kids today, radio is pretty  passé.  Very few, if any, follow music trends by what's playing on the radio.  By the time a song hits the airwaves, they've posted youtube videos mocking these monster hits and moved on.  For example, Taio Cruz has the most airplay on radio across the US this week, and is sitting at #4 on Billboard's "Hot 100".  He hasn't even peaked yet for radio play.  But, he's been in the top ten Apple downloads for some time.  By the time he is #1 on "airplay", he'll have peaked as an Apple download and in file sharing.  

By the time you heard Lady Gaga on the radio, or even in most clubs, kids had long since downloaded her album and moved on to the next artist.  They're the trendsetters, and they're the ones to whom labels cater.  Just look at Justin Bieber's record sales.  Touring is different, because the age of concert goers is more diverse.

I do.  But look at the charts.  Neither of those songs hit #1 all over Europe, which is what you claimed, before they did in the US.
