Faina Ranevskaya

http://www.spiritus-temporis.com/faina-ranevskaya/quotes.html

Some of her quotes:

"You can think and say about me  anything you wish. Where have you seen a cat that would be interested what mice think about her".

"Life is a free-fall jump out of p-ssy into grave".

"When I will die bury me and write on my  tombstone: she died from disgust"

"Young man, I still remember decent people... My God! I'm so old"

"He will die from dilation of the fantasy"

"Family replaced everything. Before acquiring a family you should think what is more important in your life: family or everything"

"To play in a bad movie is equal to a spit into eternity"

"Old age is a meanness. I think it is God's ignorance when he let a person live till his old age. My God, everyone is dead but I'm still alive. Even Birman is dead... I did not expected that from her. It is so scary when you feel like 18 y.o., admire fine music, poetry, art...  you still have things to accomplish ... you just start to live... but it is your time to go..."

"I do not recognize the word "play". You can play cards, draughts... but you have to live on the stage"

LOL. I would agree but I thought she's Canadian?

There's a couple of FSUW actively posting here I admire, but they shall remain nameless. But one who isn't posting anymore will definitely be Donna_Pedro.

Who is your favorite person from the FSU? (Not including your better half)

At this moment I'd still say my ex financee.
Fund the audits, spread the word and educate people, write your politicians and other elected officials. Stay active in the fight to save our country. Over 220 generals and admirals say we are in a fight for our survival like no other time since 1776.

BrianW,

May I ask you why the people you mentioned some of your favorites?  :)

And another rather rhetoric question - Do the members you have asked the question know about Russian/FSU culture enough to name their favorite person from the FSU and explain "why"?   :)

A very valid question Olga.

I do not have a lot of people to compare to but my short list would be

1. Alex from Lugansk: because he helped me find my fiance  :)

2. My fiance's mother: for raising a wonderful daughter for me to fall in love with  :D

If I had to add a third it would her sister because she is very young and has that youthful energy for life and everything in it. She was adorable.

Have you been to Ulan-Ude? After meeting his head some nightmares are guaranteed http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/7/7e/Lenin%27s_head_in_Ulan_Ude.jpg/450px-Lenin%27s_head_in_Ulan_Ude.jpg  ;D
It's your problem if you take my posts too seriously.

Vitaly Melnikov. I met him on my third trip over by dinner invitation. He figured since his wife's best
friend was about to leave for the USA he might as well meet the guilty American kidnapper....  he
was dead-set against Elvira continuing on with (or even writing to) anybody from the West.

All that ended after one evening together over a bottle of Зелёная Марка vodka.

Svetlana Zakharova, the Prima of the Bolshoi:

I could watch her for hours!

Unfortunately she's a great fan of Putin and a member of United Russia political party, which greatly undermines my admiration for her as a person.  :(  Luckily, in her ballet clips, she does not get to speak much.  :P

Olga,

Let me add more of the best people from the FSU, in no particular order:

You
Ludmila
RWWind
Lilly
Doll
Meis
BraveGirl (she makes me laugh when she says “shallow pockets”)

All of you are flawless and brilliant.

As for Fedor, I am a big mixed martial arts fan and he is the best. This isn't why I like him though, he has a great attitude, is a professional in a sport that has A LOT of of ruffians, he is pure class. He shows no emotion while fighting, which is incredible given what he does. He also doesn't look like a fighter, he just looks like a regular guy. I could keep going but I'll stop here regarding Fedor ;)

As to Dostoyevsky, he is my favorite author and “Notes from the Underground” is my favorite novel. I read it when I was a sophomore on college and it completely blew me away. “The Dream of a Ridiculous Man” is my favorite short story. I also find the story of Dostoyevsky's life to be extremely inspiring.

Are you joking? Nothing against the women that post here, but they are no different or better than average American women.

I get the feeling that you're the type that idolizes FSU women just because they're from the FSU (from your posts and chatting with you). I could tell when we had a chat you didn't like what I was telling you because it didn't fit your fantasy about Russian women. I highly recommend you stick with women back home. You're a young(ish) guy with a good heart and a lot going for you, right? Just grow some confidence and don't let women sucker you like that last Russian / US woman you were telling me about did.

Sergey Brin, the founder of Google, being one of the richest men on Earth, one of the best looking billionaires, he married a way below average looking woman, it makes me so happy there are non-shallow guys out there :P Also i watched this video of a lecture he gave in Berkley, he was so dorky in an endearing way haha.

Nice video, i have a question. Why do all the ballerinas have long perfect legs? I mean surely there are many people with less than perfect legs who train to be ballerinas, but you never see them, is there some discrimination going on? :)

The ballet academies who train the future ballerinas have a very rigid selection process. :)  I've been through one (for the N-sk ballet school) and it's really no laughing matter.
(I got accepted but my parents dissuaded me from attending).

- Auditions for the Bolshoi academy, starting from 2:30.

But Zakharova is truly one of a kind; exceptional physique.

Ayn Rand!

That her philosophies expressed in 1957 would be so relevant to today's economic crisis is amazing.
KenC

My philosophy, in essence, is the concept of man as a heroic being, with his own happiness as the moral purpose of his life, with productive achievement as his noblest activity, and reason as his only absolute.
