Connecting Flights Through Paris
« on: December 17, 2009, 01:48:38 PM »
Seems I have found an option that can get me from Paris to Kiev about 3 hours prior to an internal flight from Kiev to Chernovtsy/Chernivtsi, which seems very good.

However, I only have 75 minutes to get from landing (assuming it's on time) in Paris to my flight to Kiev.  Have never been through that airport.  Always went from JFK to Kiev, or Amsterdam to Kiev.

Anyone gone the Paris route?
Enough time?
Not keen on being stranded in France.
Thanks.

I have been through the Paris Charles Degaulle Airport twice on my way back from Dneptroptvosk.
It is one big airport !!!!
You will have to take one of the shuttle buses to get to the terminal you are going to. Time was not a factor in my case as I had two hours before connecting flight to Newark.
I would have been a little nervous if I had only minimal time to connect.
That being said you will be able to find employees who can speak english if you get turned around or lost.

Missed my flight at Charles de Gaulle... 40 minutes was not enought to pass passport and security controls because of too long queues. 50 minutes would work.

By the way heard that they cancelled about 30% of flights today because of the weather. But it can happen in any country.
It's your problem if you take my posts too seriously.

Years ago while on an up escalator at Charles de Gaulle I saw this lady on the opposite down escalator:

Alas, our paths crossed inconveniently :(, for me at least ;D.

All airlines on their International flights close their check-in desks 45 minutes before departure to report loads etc.

It is not advisable to allow less than 2 hours connection for any flight because many factors can make you miss your connection. eg. immigration at Kiev is extremely slow and missing the ONLY evening flight to Chernivtsi will mean a night stop over at Borispol airport/hotel. A taxi ride to Chernivtsi is more than 8 hours drive and very expensive too.

Hello,

I am from Paris. CDG is a big airport , connecting can be a problem like any big airports ( I missed so many connecting flights in Germany). Plus it is Winter, so your flight can be delayed. Moreover, if the police arrives to make an immigration check right at the exit of the plane, you can get extra delay....

Thus 75 minutes between flight seems a minimum. If you have to connect flights, it is better to choose a smaller airport ( I used Wien several times instead of Frankfort for example).

Check in which terminal your flight arrives in Paris and which is the one you use to go outside France. If it is same terminal, then it should be easier.

In any big airport, flying tends to be a nightmare not a dream anymore ( I used to enjoy my beer between flights , no I have to strip at security check in front of everybody )...

Have a good flight and good holidays !!

Thanks everyone.

Well...I guess I'll keep searching for an alternative, stay overnight in Kiev, or something.  Sounds like a 75 minute squeeze in a big airport where I don't speak the language and have never been before = high risk.    :-\ :-\

I tried Kayak and doing a multi-city stay overnight in Amsterdam scenario, but it jacks the ticket cost through the roof.

What is that old saying?  You can't get there from here.
You can, it just takes a lot of planning, flights, patience, luck, a heck of a long time.

And the good news is:  Even with perfect planning regarding time between flights, etc. . . . something can go wrong!!  Best to be psyched up for that, then it won't be so traumatic when it actually happens!!  :-))

Travel, especially international, can be a pleasant experience or a nightmare; you just never know what is in each piece of chocolate, until you bite in.
