I may be in a position similar to yours in the not too distant future.

Can you give me an idea of the overall time frame?
I mean, from the date you sent out your initial application until the date she was granted a permanent resident visa?

Also, when you say 'permanent resident visa' are you referring also to the 'spousal visa' as being one and the same

The Overall Timeframe for Svetlana's PR VISA was......

April 7th........., Married in Jamaica.

June 5th........., the CIC (Citizenship and Immigration Canada) Case Processing Centre Mississauga, Received my Application to Sponsor Svetlana as my Spouse.

July 7th.........., CIC Accepted me as a Suitable Sponsor and our File was forwarded to the Canadian Embassy in Moscow for, "Further Processing".

September 2nd, our File was Opened in Moscow and Processing of our Application began. (background checks, etc...)

November 17th, Svetlana's Medical Results were Received. (approved by CIC physicians in London England)

November 23rd, I paid Svetlana's Right Of Permanent Resident Fee ($490)  **** I should have paid this fee in June when I paid the Principal Applicant Fee! ($475) and Sponsorship Application Fee ($75) PAY THEM ALL AT ONCE to avoid Processing Delay!!

November 30th, Letter from CIC Case Processing Centre asking for the Right Of Permanent Resident Fee 

December 10th, Letter from CIC Case Processing Centre acknowledging payment of Right Of Permanent Resident Fee 

December 21st, Svetlana receives a call at 4pm Moscow time from Canadian Embassy informing her that our Spousal Application has been Approved and she has been Accepted as a Permanent Canadian Resident 

So yes CanadaMan, the PR and Spousal are one and the same

Thank-you very much Mr KenC, it will be I'm flying to Kirov to be with Sveta on the 28th for New Years. It will be a great Year to Celebrate!

Obviously I relate to your feelings when you got this phone call. I received the same on November 12, when I was ordering my new international passport in order to have it valid as long as possible. So I was talking to the embassy officer and to the passport officer at the same time. The embassy asked me whether one month is enough for me to get my PR visa in the passport. It apparently was not enough, so I asked for a prolinged time. As a result, the Embassy gave me 90 days to get my visa. In the mid January, I will go to Samara for my new passport and then to the Embassy for my visa.

When Svetlana got the call it was a Moscow number, so she had her suspicions!
Good luck in getting everything settled Lily! This is why Sveta won't be travelling back with me in January. She has too many loose ends to tie up, including the vacating of her flat and renting it out.
Perhaps our paths will cross one of these days in Ontario. It is a small world after all! Just ask Member Lee08 on here

- september 27 2008 -> wedding in Kiev
- Trouble with father who just remember that he has a son after 6 years
- May 2009 -> all sent to CIC mississauga
- August 2009 -> file open in Kiev
- August 2009 -> sponsorship accepted in Quebec
- September 2009 -> November 2009 : Mistakes between Quebec and Kiev, document are not sent or were never received  , it took 2 months for them to notify us.
- november 2009 -> We supply detailed chronology of her life and pay fees, all is completed
- No news since despite informations requests.

On Friday my wife finished packing the last of her possessions away into boxes and boarded a train to Moscow.
Tomorrow morning, Moscow time, she will fly from the Motherland to me and her new life in Canada!

She celebrated Women's Day on Monday with her family at an outdoor BBQ in -8C weather. Better than the -20 to -30s they'd been having in January and February!
