AJ, you don't really have to worry, 172 - it's not that bad, especially 172,7 ;)  It seems to me that the average height for girls is 167-170, so you're definitely taller than them :D

Tallest guys are from The Netherlands, Germany, Sweden at about 1.81 m, according to Wikipedia. According to other articles i read, only the dutch are the tallest.
The average male height for the entire planet is 164 cm, female 154 cm (blame the chinese :P)
According to another website, in Russia average male height is 176, female 168 (self-reported). I think both men and women tend to make themselves taller when asked though

I'm in the same boat AJ :) 172-174.. somewhere around there.  I've had an easier time dating taller women than shorter... of my last 2 relationships, one was a 5'1"/155cm bartender that later in the relationship said she almost didn't go on the second date because I was too short... the last was a 5'9"/175cm attorney who had no issue whatsoever with the height difference.  Both were about the same level of physical attractiveness and great personalities, but the attorney was the whole package, career, could cook, was considerate, etc.... still trying to convince her to move to my city as thats why that one ended.. distance

Hello guys,

been reading you for a while, decided to register just to cheer AJ up honestly :)

I'm a female (158 cm) and always thought my personal preferences are at least 180cm ;)
since i've met my now boyfriend i don't really understand why would i struggle such a gap all those years (he is 173 or 172 idk :))

doesn't really matter when you're in love and in fact it's way comfy to cuddle :)

ps sometimes i consider this mutual short-tall interest to be just some kind of natural compensation, in regard to genetics you know.. like c'mon guys go and make someone of average size :)

Interesting nick, Avis. I would discount the US car-rental company so that'd leave, among others, the Latin word for bird, as in rara avis (rare bird) ;). Right or wrong?

 :-[ :'(

just remembered a female friend of mine from early college years. She was 6'2", i am 5'8". She was always going crazy about guys who were at least 4" shorter than herself. While i always preferred a guy to be at least 3" taller than me. So for me - her dates always looked too short. For her taller guys were only buddies, without possibility for romance.

My earlier reply to Brian - was not a confirmation that women like taller men, but rather a speculation why women may treat differently taller vs. shorter men.

wildgeechi-
i would have to say thats been my experience in life as well ,
woman near my height or taller , are in general more likely to date me,
than shorter woman (5'0 to 5'4)
where it seems it would be more appropriate?
but seriously very short women seem to have an even stronger preference for men 6ft plus, lots of studies done on it.
As mentioned by  a few it's likely a subconscious genetic motive ? and i'm sure you've noticed it yourself,, its strange ,but
true?  :)

Dear guys, I apologize a lot for having to say this, but if you made a topic on it, then answers should be expected.

For an illustration, a shorter man would be as attractive for a woman, as a fatter woman would be attractive for a man.

Ouch.  Glad to be 188cm.

I think JR also mentioned a certain height feels right.  I agree.  For me it's about 170-179cm.  I have dated women as short as 157cm.  I felt awkward and like a towering giant.  But I have a friend who is 6'5" and married a woman who is 5'0' 14 years ago.  Still married.  3 kids.  So I guess they worked the physical part out OK.   8)

When the woman is sitting on the man, doesn't matter if he is 4 feet tall or 7 feet tall, so that aspect is rarely a problem.

But now dancing, where the partners are significantly different in height, that is a real problem.  Running and jogging also.  Wife carrying contests should lead to sure wins.

But, unfortunately for the women, they never get the chance or honor to be called shallow.

jj,
Funny video of Mickey Rooney!

AJ,
Mickey Rooney did quite well for 5'2".  Married 8 times with the first Ava Gardner!  He is quoted:
"I didn't ask to be short. I didn't want to be short. I've tried to pretend that being a short guy didn't matter
[asked if he would marry all of his eight wives again] "Absolutely. I loved every one of them."

With your "Tom Cruise" good looks, remember you have an inch on him too!

Let me see, you have wickedly good looks that make you appear years younger than your actual age, you're charming, have an ultra exciting profession, treat women very well, have a winning personality that makes every woman melt....................and your gonna complain about being a little on the short side? Give me a #$&*! break!  My God, you even have a dolphin in your avatar, for Christ's sake!  You don't need any more help, Dude.  Maybe being a little vertically challenged keeps you humble? :rolleyes2:  You are one of the few here that needs to travel with a baseball bat to beat the women away!  Such a "troubled road" ahead for you is what most guys here dream about. :rolleyes2:

Hope all is well for you.

And also, unfortunately for short men, they will not get tall, while fatter women always have an option of losing weight  ;)

Dears, I feel that something should definitely be added to this topic in order to make it constructive.

Strictly speaking, nobody of you should care what men are generally disliked by women. Well, to certain extent you probably should, but only in order to see whether this or that could be corrected in some ways or not. In majority of cases, height cannot be. Now what? Killing yourself?? >:( Obviously not, because this is not going to help anyone. Instead, compensate for it somehow.

In fact, you shouldn't be concerned whether women like or dislike shorter men. You 'd better think whether women like or dislike YOU, irrespectively of your height. This IS the question to be asked, rather than that. Next, think of what you can do to increase your chances.

Better explain that Holiday Inn ad for those FSU girls, AJ :-)

Seriously, girls do prefer taller guys.  I have heard it too many times to doubt it.  Personally, I'm taller than 98 percent of the girls, so it does not hurt me.  But for the short guys here, just think of it as a non-essential factor that you can overcome with a good first impression and tender loving care to the lady.

True story-- one girl I was dating (she is a short 5 ft 4 inches, shared how she met a guy and they really hit it off.  But she was wearing 5 inch heels and he did not notice. On the second date she was wearing much shorter heels; he dumped her in the middle of the date, saying "I thought you were  much taller and I require a girl at least 5 ft 8.
So guys can be shallow, too.

PS-- I'm glad she is short.  She can't get high heels tall enough to reach my height :-)

There is a VERY good audio book version of it, if you are serious, i think you should get the audio book and the real book, and read the story together with the narrator, that way you memorize both spelling and pronunciation :)
EDIT: No wait, i just remembered, i didnt like the narrator in audio book of master and margarita, it was the count of monte cristo that i absolutely loved, sorry :P But hey, you can always get monte-cristo in russian! :D

Holy Danny de Vitos Batman!

Now that's the reason why I was still a virgin when I got married. It was because I'm short, 174 cm at high noon. When the afternoon shadows appear then I can stand taller.

Like AJ, my social life REALLY sux and now I know the reason why. Thank goodness to dating/social message boards.    :'(

I've talked to a lot of women and it seems most them, of all backgrounds, don't really like men that are shorter than them.

Is this true with RW's?

I'm six feet tall (1.82 meters) so I've never really thought about it.

I'm 1.58 meters - so YES, I personally wouldn't like to be with a man who's shorter than me.

But, on the other hand, I wouldn't feel comfortable next to somebody taller than 1.75m either  :P
