Living abroad? Waiting on a K3?
« on: December 27, 2009, 03:15:02 PM »

Hello Everyone,

Been a while since my last post (almost 2 years)  and it has been a very busy 2 years, she has almost completed her last masters degree in Sweden, I will be going there in February.  Then will come back to Moldova (Trasnystria) in June for our wedding.  This is where I run into a bit of a snag, she would like me to stay there with her until she has her visa and then we will leave together. I am told this can take from 3 to 6 months.  I have no problems with this, but where do I start looking for a job?  I am a construction manager by trade and familiar with most trades, I can wire, plumb, frame, finish, so I have a wide variety of skills.  Is this a practical idea?  or should I just accept the fact it would be easier to be apart for a while longer?  I did hire an immigration attorney to help me with the papers (Holmes and Lolly).

Any advice would be appreciated.  On a side note can anyone tell me what a Moldovan wedding is like?  She keeps telling me it is a 'surprise' for me.     :o   lol

Rob ,

we dont have much context,
it seems she is in sweden ,but from moldova ,
and you will marry there.

were are you from?

I am american, but was living/working  part time in europe during the time i dated my ex wife,, and when we got married
(in ukraine)
actually my job changed during that time and after the weddiing i returned to the USA permanently.
and waited the 3 to 5 moths for the visa.

i was working for a company already, that had work availible in europe,
and I was not "in her country" looking for a job.
i think depending on your language skills that might be tough in a 3 o 6 month time frame ,and better to just wait?

if you are direct consulate filing , it wouldn't initially be  a K3?
but every country is different , so you need to look int o it,

I filed the petition for alien relative (I-130)myself in warsaw,(now for ukraine it is done in kiev)
and had no problems ,it was very simple in our case, but each case is different also.
my advise is whether you hire an attorney or not,
do NOT count on your lawyer looking into all details, look into them yourself.
and familiarize yourself with immigration law,for example the workings of a K3 visa.

The K3 , is fundamentally a temp visa , for relatives awaiting the approval of the I 130..
(as the waiting period was indeed long in the past and regulation  was passed
to put  a temp visa in place to reduce hardship on families awaiting the process)

i am unsure if the alien relative is moldavan if you can do a direct consulte filing of a I130,, but again i suggust you find out and not leave it up to an attorney..they should know, i am just advising donot count on it and to do your own due diligence

visa journey is  a good website for starting your visa education.. *shrugs*

as far as moldovan wedding .. lol no idea!

but if it is like anything like a  traditional Ukrainain wedding it will be great!
lots of surprises and you will have a great time!

Let me clarify a bit,

she is currently living in Sweden and is finishing her masters degree there, I will be visiting for the month of February and then going back home to Maui (USA), She will finish in June go back to her fathers place in Trasnystria and prepare for her (and lets face it when it comes to weddings its HERS) wedding.  She would like me to stay there with her until the documents are ready (visa) for her to come back to the USA.  I have already applied to several Construction recruiters who place people internationally, and I am pretty sure I can find something in Moscow or in Western Europe without to much problem.  Just wondering if anybody else had already done this and could offer a few pointers.

MrConstruction,
What kind of tips are you looking for?
I am an American living in western Europe and I have worked in the contruction industry here.
If you want a trade job you will most likely find that there are huge wage differences between regions here. The closer to FSU the lower the pay. In the FSU working in the trades, it probably wouldn't be worth it at all. (very low pay)
Easiest type of work here to get without holding any Journeyman papers are as a concrete form carpenter. There had been a shortage of workers in general, but the financial crisis changed things a bit and it has been slow for a while.
Probably the most difficult thing in your case would be language, however because the extensive use of Polish, Latvian, Estonian, Lithuanian etc. workers in western Europe, many construction companies use English with certain designated crews, mostly the more simple tasks.
Anyway just thought I would write a bit about this, as I do have some experience.

I see you are from Maui. Do you know any of the Ross brothers?
