AJ, you are ;). For instance, in a C major scale:

- Dominant 7th chord (C7): C-E-G-Bb
- Major 7th chord (C7+): C-E-G-B
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dominant_seventh_chord

The terminology IS confusing, since the 7th note in a C scale is B, not Bb (a diminished 7th). Such chords with a 'foreign' 7th are often used in a cadenza to modulate to a tonality that contains the note (e.g. from C major to F major or D minor).

ah got it now sandro!  thanks :)
unfortunantly i'm much better at just playing be ear , then i'll know what 7th chord to play, but not its
its proper name (same with scales,or modes ,though i can normally work out the names and theory if i reflect on it)

.

Nat, you are right on both counts. We got Lucia as a kitten and I was told he was a she. My ex named him thinking it was a girl and by the time we found out the name was stuck to him like glue)))

I read that the name Lucifer is rather popular with Dutch cats. It would mean something like 'wooden fire match' that would generally relate to someone or something thin :)  Not always true for belofed family cats, though :)

Lily, I could be wrong but Lucifer is another name for Satan. I've never heard the "wooden fire match"  or somethnig thin

Quote
Lucifer is a Latin word, literally meaning "light-bearer", which in that language is used as a name for the dawn appearance of the planet Venus, heralding daylight. Use of the word in this sense is uncommon in English, in which "Day Star" or "Morning Star" are more common expressions.

In English, "Lucifer" generally refers to Satan, although the name is not applied to him in the New Testament. The use of the name "Lucifer" in reference to a fallen angel stems from an interpretation of Isaiah 14:3-20, a passage that speaks of a particular Babylonian King, to whom it gives the title of "Day Star", "Morning Star" (in Latin, lucifer), as fallen or destined to fall from the heavens or sky. In 2 Peter 1:19 and elsewhere, the same Latin word lucifer is used to refer to the Morning Star, with no relation to the devil. However, in post-New Testament times the Latin word Lucifer has often been used as a name for the devil, primarily in fictional works.

On the other hand, the "light-bearer" meaning probably influenced Samuel Jones:
Quote
The first "friction match" was invented by English chemist John Walker in 1826... Walker discovered a mixture of antimony(III) sulfide or stibnite, potassium chlorate, gum, and starch could be ignited by striking against any rough surface. Walker called the matches congreves, but the process was patented by Samuel Jones and the matches were sold as lucifer matches.

But only Shadow could cast some light (pun intended ;)) on why the Dutch call their cats Lucifer. Given their notorious parsimoniousness, some might still have matches from the early 1800s around ;D.

I have not come across a lot of cats called Lucifer, though Dutch do like to choose interesting names.

The word lucifer in Dutch relates to matches much more as to Satan, and any cat predominantly white but with a read of black head might ' match'  the name.

Regarding strange names... here is a picture of my first Baby.
No it is not a dog. Its really how I look.  ;)
