Having trouble finding new $20 bills. I got some new $50s. Anyone know if they are accepted?

I'll give you 2 $20's for 1 $50. I only give that kind of deal to friends and family.

Can't say for sure but just take $100's in case. They are accepted and take up less space in your wallet compared to 5 $20's

I will give you two $25 for one $50. And can print your picture on them instead of some ancient president.
That will beat the deal of BillyB.

Is this something that is relevant only in Russia? I didn't have any problem with old 100 dollar bills in Ukraine. Of course I used my debit card for the most, but I did use some cash on occasion.  ??

I always took $100 bills. With a little notice my bank was always able to horde up enough new bills. When I would exchange money it would always be $100 or more. Also since I wore a security pouch in my pants...less volumne the better! :D

As much as the Federal Reserve is printing they should not be hard to find :) They will get around to printing 20's for the peons shortly. They are still doing the 100's for the fat cats.

I know that the Federal Reserve Banks will exchange damaged $$ for better ones. but I do not know if they will give you brand new ones. And, of course, most people don't have one of these in their neighborhood.

Easier just to bring some kind of charge cards. CitiBank has quite a few outlets in Moscow with no fee for their card.

If I were going to Moscow that would be the way to go. But since I am headed to Tashkent the ATM situation is unknown to me, hence the cash thing.

On my second trip I had several 100's rejected at a certain bank for something as minor as a very insignificant small ink mark apparently from a ball point pen. I did exchange them at a different bank without much decrease in exchange but the experience made me look at the bills in a completely different light. I really thought all my bills on that trip were flawless. I picked them out myself at my bank. A couple had marks from previous creases, they were substandard too.

For all subsequent trips I get perfect or near perfect bills even if I have to make several trips on different days to my bank. My bank informed me that they don't get brand new bills unless they are specifically ordered and can take several weeks.

I would just go into a bank and use your card to get money. When the bank network was "down" for a couple of days whilst in Ukraine I did it and it worked flawless. Of course I would also never go to FSU without some emergency money.

I never knew that they could be so picky and even though I never had this problem and I had OLD bills, in the future I will get new ones as well. Of course it is probably easier to get new bills here, because they are sending the new ones out of the US!!!! 8)

I remember I had put brand new crisp $100.00 bills in one of my money belts and when I went to exchange them in Saint Petersburg The bank would not accept them.  So being the ingenious man, I went to my flat and ironed all of the crisp new  $100.00 bills.  Amazing they cashed just fine. Olga I also use and have ATM bank cards for our family in Russia and they have never had a problem using them. You had to see Olga's face when she came in the room and there I was ironing a stack of brand new hundreds.
The look on her face was priceless! :o
