Sovet times military base on or near Lake Bakail?
« on: February 03, 2010, 12:34:07 AM »
I've been doing searches for a military base on or near Lake Bakail, during the times of the Soviet Union, and I can't find anything.  Can someone point me in the right direction or have any ideas on this?
Feel free to pm me, if have any advice, questions, or anything else.

However the question is, what is the reason for this search ?

There's an ultra-secret weight loss camp called Area Minus 51 located underneath the base. They guarantee you will lose 51 lbs in three days or your money back. That would place phantom right at his optimal FSUW pursiut weight of 179 lbs. Unless of course he really is 385. If thats the case he has to stay for the five day program which entails....more severe methods

And the prize goes to Jollyrats!  :D

shadow, I was just wondering, as a lady I sometimes write to, grew up on the military base, her father was a high ranking officer and she's not very informative of things, when asked even just briefly about it.  So, I'll try google earth.  Thanks.

In the recent past it was not encouraged in Russia to talk about military matters. Even today I do not think any American should get too close to a base.

From the movie 'peculiarities of National Hunting':
Quote
Do not talk English here... this is a top secret military base

Phantom Russians from the military do not talk a lot about it. MrsShadows father at the first meeting just told he was a doctor, the part that he also is a military colonel was left out.

People see the Russian army usually as the old Soviet army, loaded with old and non-functioning equipment. And Russia likes to keep it that way, for obvious reasons.  ;)

If you look over Russia with Google Earth you'll see many areas "scrambled" out. Most of these are military installations and closed cities. What I have seen of them won't help you a bit

There were lots of military bases around Lake Bakail.  It was dictated by the US presence in North Korea, Japan and Alaska, and not very friendly relations with China.  This region was part of the Soviet Far East Military Zone.  There was an air base with long distance bombers, a missile base and long distance radar bases.  I did some searches, but found no information.
After the fall of communism, the biggest mistake Boris Yeltsin's regime made was not to disband the KGB altogether. Instead it changed its name to the FSB and, to many observers, morphed into a gangster organisation, eventually headed by master criminal Vladimir Putin. - Gerard Batten

I noticed too that places were scratched out on google earth, when I checked around Lake Bakail, so I just wound up reading about that.  I was just curious about where she grew up.  Wiz, The Russia House, was a big help, I'll have to check it out.  :)

Thanks for all the in put.

Do i have a gaping hole in my education? I've never heard of a "lake bakail" before. I've heard of lake Baikal however. Maybe thats why you cant find anything, cuz you misspell it every time?
