Fiance Visa info that is needed for her to sign
« on: January 04, 2006, 12:33:38 AM »
I left my blank Visa forms in the states. What info do I need from her to begin filling out the info? She doesn't have a passport yet. I am hoping we can bust butt and get her to the US around May 18 when my school gets out. Does anyone know if almost 2 year old application docs are still good? Also, anyone have a scanned copy of the forms that she must sign that perhaps you could email me?

Thanks in advance

You can go to the USCIS website and download the forms and print them there.  If you can't find that go to www.visajourney.com and follow the links.  There are sample forms filled out on the visa journey web site.  You need place and date of birth for her, her parents and any kids.  You need any info on a proir marriage.  All address where she has lived for more than a year and her work info for her life.   That is off the top of my head.  You need a passport photo.  get a copy of her birth certificte while you are there, you need it later.  keep all your boarding passes.  take lots of photos together with date if possible.  That is a start

If you do download the forms and print them and have her sign them while she is there have her sign in blue or dark blue ink.  If the downloaded forms are signed in black ink sometimes they think it is a photo copy.   If you get the signature on the 325- A and get the passport photo, the rest of the information you could get by e-mail.

By the way, welcome to the world of one week wonders.  When you have some time, go down to the anything goes section and tell us all about it so we can bash the heck out of you.   I am just joking, we all wish you the best of luck with your gal and your future but don't be surprised if you get a little flack.  They all mean well.

Don't overlook the "Statement of Intent" if that still exists (my info is three years ancient). My wife handwrote in English, something like, I, (her name), intend to marry (your name) within 90 days of my arrival in the United States. I understand that my failure to do so will disqualify me from remaining in the USA.

(or to that effect)

This cannot be e-mailed or FAX'd - handwritten original, signed and dated.

Yes, you will need all orginals, no fax or photocopy, except for some official docs like her decree of divorce, where she gives you a photocopy to submit to BCIS and brings a certified copy to Moscow for the interview.

All docs in Russian need certified translations.

Also for maximum speed, use DHL.  UPS and FedEx will be more than happy to have your business, but all they do is hand it off to DHL at both ends, so it adds 2 days onto the shipping time.

Yes, you do still need the letter of intent.  There is a sample of one at visa journey.  If she has not been married there are no documents that need traslated for the original filing.  You will need her birth certificate translated and the translation certified before the interview.  If she is divorced you will need a copy of that and you can have it tranlated here.

Oosik, if I might stray off-topic for a moment, from where are you writing? And will she be bringing any children?

Internet cafe by the post office in downtown Chernigov. I have about 24 hours before my butt is on a plane seat going back.

Thanks for the support guys, I will begin trying to gather the stuff now. If I have time I'll put in an installment on my TR.

She'll also need her police record for any town she's lived in since she was 16.

Ken is right on that but she does not need it until the interview so you have time for for it.  Actually you don't want to do it too far ahead.  She will also need the medical exam before the interveiw but that too is better not done too far ahead.

Sorry, I didn't qualify that. I was just trying to remember all the things we needed. Yes, don't get the medical until they schedule the interview as there are only 3 (I think) clinics in Moscow that are approved to do the exam. Best to schedule a few days before the interview so she'll have time to pick up the results.

One more tidbit of advice:  Certified translations, while they can be done here as well as there, are a lot cheaper there.

That is likely true.  When I had mine done in the USA it was nearly $ 100.00  When I saw what was done, I thought if was a rip off.   They typed about 20 words.

There was someone who posted a very low price for certified translations here, something in the range of $ 12.00.   I checked out the link and the seem to have gotten much more sophistacted since the last time I visited the site.  Their rates are now $ 10.00 for the translation and $ 5.00 for the certification.  Here is the link for those who need it.  http://www.engrustranslations.com/   Their original post is in the services section.

We found a local business (Russian Immigrations Services) that works out of a synagogue that charges $10 a page for a certified translation. Might want to check around your local area to see what is available.

I assume she needn't go to Moscow for the medical!! She is from Ukraine.

I printed out the forms, she filled out 2 copies of the bio, and we went and got pictures taken. As long as she can bring the rest of the stuff to the embassy in Kiev, we won't have a DHL bill to pay along with the rest of it. Thanks a grundle guys.

PS, Watching her worry over the form and do it so carefully was sooo sweet.

You are right, She will go to Kiev for the Medical.   It sounds like you have the situation well in hand.  Good luck with everything.

Sorry, didn't see that you were in Ukraine. Best of luck!
