From Kazakhstan with ..........

hopefully love . As some of you know, my girl from Kazakhstan will be meeting me in Los Angeles this week. She received her tourist visa after 2 days of pre-counseling and 2 days in interview at embassy in Almaty. I think she had more of a chance than your usual FSU woman, since she is well traveled (thru work & holidays), owns a couple flats, and is fluent in English. She was so stressed out going into the interview, because she saw one after one come out of their appt's crying and rejected of their visa. She told me she passed out after the interview and had to be revived with smelling salt by the guards there. She is divorced and has no children (as am I). She doesn't drink or smoke (thank god or I wouldn't make this venture).
We have communicated off/on for the last 4 years and have talked everyday for the last 6 months via phone, Skype and emails. We 1st communicated from East/West Match site, which is no longer in business and got her email somehow.
I was looking again after two visits to two different cities in Russia. Although our meetings didn't amount to anything, I cherished the experience, culture, food an what Russia was all about.
She wanted our meeting to be special and meet somewhere she had never been before. We 1st looked at meeting in Costa Rica, then Mexico, but the plane reservations for her didn't work out. So she decided to try for a tourist visa, since she had heard she might have a good chance to get one. So as it turned out she got it!
So we are taking a 10 day tour of CA, Vegas, and Grand Canyon and included in this are 3 theme park passes, which she is most excited about, especially Disneyland! It should be interesting tour on a bus the entire trip, but it will also be a great way to experience each other's company 24/7.
I wanted to get this TR started now, so I can update during and after our trip, so hopefully I can enlighten a few people when they go to visit their woman or FSU countries. I will be bringing my laptop for a few reasons, but if I get some time, I will update everyone.

Sounds like you two will have fun. The best thing is that your lady seems very interested in you and it takes two to make a relationship happen.

I remember walking into embassy in Tashkent and seeing a lot of people waiting for their interview. Many looked nervous or didn't have a good night sleep and stressed out. For many people there, the interviewer decides if they get to walk a different path in life.

I'll be looking foward to your trip report Jalapeno. Yours will definately be different since she's coming to visit you.

Yikes! Anyway, stuff like that is why maybe the guy should be there at the interview too.

My wife cannot go more than 3 days without eating Russian food.  I have learned that and it is noted on all trips now.

It's quite possible she may not like much of what she'll try here, so it's always best to have options.

Everyones different.  She will have enough chance to try strange food here that she might like a break and have food she is familiar with.  My favorite meals when I was in the FSU were those I at at Mickey D's.   

Give her the choice.

As far as food goes, she loves asian and seafood most of all and already has said she will not even try fast food places.

Well, Arrival day for both of us was very long, especially for her as you can imagine. She did not sleep on plane the whole time!
I had gotten early in morning and she wasn't arriving till 4:30pm, so I went to hotel to check in, make sure her room was close to mine, and had lunch before I headed back to airport to meet her. Well, I had a driver lined up to pick me up, but ended up not working out for him due to late arriving customers around the time my girl was coming in. So, I had to spend $80 on a freakin taxi to get there on time. Oh well, she did want me there to meet her and promised her I would meet her, so it was worth the $80.
So, I'm in the waiting area and hung out by the incoming ramp of occasional people coming thru customs. I'm noticing a couple standing next to me was waiting on the same flight of passengers from Moscow. The woman's sister was arriving from Izhevsk and we got to talking about visa's and such. I told her about RWD and she said she will have to check it out So, we're talking and waiting and kind of noticed my girl out of corner of my eye and even the woman asked if it was her? So, I said I think so and darted off (saying bye to them) to greet her. She looked nervous or unsure of finding me thru sea of people, but I yelled to her and she was happy to see me. So, we went outside to get our ride to hotel while continuing to talk about trip. BTW, she only had suitcase the size of my carry-on bag!! I'm like, WTH? I guess the inspection area in Almaty asked her to discard all her mascara and such things and she was not happy about this as you can imagine. I asked her if there was clothes in there and she said Da (with a laugh)
So, we talked the whole way to hotel with driver (who might be our tour guide also), who is also from S. Korea, so we were trying to understand his English as well. LOL. We check her into room, call her Mom to let her know she made it ok and went to dinner across from hotel. She commented on the size of dinner portions that other people had ordered, but we only ordered from the appetizers menu and it was enough to fill us up.
So we go back to hotel to sleep for our busy day at Disneyland today.

Day 2 - Disneyland
Our hotel was 10 min away from Disneyland, so we did not have to get up real early after her long travel day. We were anxious to get our tour underway and learn more about each other. She did have clothes in that small suitcase, how I don't know, but there was.Her clothes were fashionable and got alot of attn, especially her purse that was an train purse This was not really a surpris, since she does some modeling back home. We went on all the rides except for the roller coasters, which she doesn't like, but I do! I had looked at the weather forecast before our trip and told her that it would be warm a couple of days and also cool a couple mornings, but it seemed like she did not listen to me or trust my research with the clothes she brought  Stubborness was starting to show, but I shrug it off because we had 8 more days together.
She seemed to have a good time at Disneyland, but she mentioned seeing the same things at Japan's Disneyland when she went there. I think she was not overly impressed despite being very anxious to see Disneyland here. I think she was more fascinated by the fat people than anything, as she commented about them everytime she saw somebody like that.
