Richard11 goes to Kiev (Trip 3)
« on: January 14, 2006, 12:11:47 PM »
KenC had a good idea, catch everyone up and post a pre-trip report before I leave for Kiev on Wednesday.

Some of you may remember my two trips in 2004 on a WOVO that ended in disaster.    But, I learned a lot and they were life changing trips.   Before my first trip I was afraid to fly, ride elevators and had about given up on  love.    In addition to my two FSU trips, I have since made another 5 trips to Europe and have met some wonderful people in my travels.   Speaking a little Russian is good even in Western Europe, I meet RW's everywhere --   even sometimes in the USA.    I have also traveled to Canada and Las Vegas 10-15 times, so I have become a flying junkie, strung out on frequent flyer miles and upgrades.   For a short time I dated a UW here in the USA, but that did not work out.

I met a wonderful girl from Kursk on a trip to Holland last summer, she was there on a Shengen visa and I visted her a couple times.   We had a lot of fun and she spoke English well.   She was sweet and nice, and I invited her to the USA (figured she could at least try to get a tourist visa) but she said no she did not want to go to the USA.     She invited me to Russia (she had to return when her visa expired 11/18/2005) and I decided to go to Kiev.    I have talked to her on the phone and she wants me to go to Moscow but may meet me in Kiev, so I am going hoping she decides to meet me in Kiev but I think that is unlikely.   That is OK though, becasue she says she will get another Shengin visa, and this time plans to go to Italy, so I am sure I will see her this spring if I don't see her on this trip.

After my 2004 trips I swore of writing anyone and became a confirmed WNVM and so in Kiev I will use KievConnections and probably just hang out in clubs and with some friends.   SmoothOperator will be there the same week, and Stirlitz and another guy will be there, so I am sure I will have fun.     My goal is really to see old friends, practice my Russian, and perhaps meet someone to visit again in the future.

I leave Wednesday --  now as a American Airlines Platimum member -- knowing people in Kiev and a little language, and so I am looking forward to Kiev in January and hopefully meeting some new friends and having fun....

The girl from Kursk told me she would let me know on 1/15 if she would meet me for the weekend.   I will keep you posted....

Richard,

Again, welcome.  I know enjoyed your T/R in the past and look foward to this one.  What was that phrase your Russian girlfriend used regarding you renting a yacht for her?

"Ya Hachoo Yacht!"

That's why I like the girl from Kursk, I have met her three times, she didn't even want to go on a canal boat much less a yacht, and if we ever got to the point where we were planning marriage, I know it would be love, cause she has NO desire to come the the USA...   The opposite of a GCG!

I think she will pass on Kiev though, and I will probaly meet her in Moscow next month or wait until the Spring and see her in Italy....

The cool thing about becoming a WNVM is that there is no pressure, just fun meeting people.    The best marriages probably don't come from a week of romance but from a friendship blooming into more...  That's my strategy in 2006.

Richard,

Too many guys map out their strategy like a fine tuned battle plan, but they forget all about having fun!  Geesh, if you can't have fun, why bother?

That's what happened with Lena and I.  We got to know and enjoy each other's personality over the phone.  I never gave "us" much of a chance romantically, but then you know, the old guy stil has some moves left. :toocool:

Richard,

I enjoyed catching up on the phone this afternoon.  Always good to visit with you.

Of all the guys involved in the search I know, you are probably the best at thinking outside the box.  Good on you.

I think you will have a good trip with or without the girl from Kursk,  unlike others, you go with no expectation or necessity of a one week  romance, therefore you are under zero pressure to fall in love  instantly.   You are also a good enough looking guy with so much  to offer that the girls with something on the ball will always flock to  you.  In short, you do not attract the trailer trash girls or  those with a scammer mentality, besides, your Russian is sounding  better all the time.

Of course, it always helps to have the wherewithal to do a trip like this on the whim.

Wishing you only the best...

All of my trips wto Western Europe have been fun, no agenda and no pressure.   So far I have hit it off with the girl from kursk and a Romanian pharmacist I met along the way.    May see her in the first part of Feb aginan, if I decide to pursue that.   Met both of these girls when I wasn;t looking and just going about life.   I am sold on the WNMS method....

Well, the Kursk girl is out on this trip.   She wants to stay in Kursk and look for a job.   I may see her this spring in Western Europe, or perhaps meet her later.   So off to Kiev with no agenda!   Could be fun!  Could just be damn cold!

Richard,

If you were able to retrieve the begining of your first trip report from the other location it might be informative for anyone with phobia's to read against what you just posted. A shining example of facing and getting past your fears...even considering how the following trips turned out.

Good luck to you and have a great trip!

Richard,

You have come a long way since last we spoke :)

You have two of the three main ingredients for success -

1.  To know WHO you are looking for.

2.  To be in no HURRY to find her.

The third ingredient is knowing when to move on....

Honest,  I think many guys hang on for far too long.

First definite "red flag" - Bye !

Once you think "maybe this woman is not right for me" -  Next !

You will have a great time in Kiev.

Are Kiev women are a good option for you and living in Kansas?

I am sure you will find your own answers on this trip.

Best of luck.

Richard good luck on your trip. I will warn Kiev to send out all single women on to the street with a sign "I want to meet Richard and Smoothoperator"

I will be in Moscow myself next week, Mila will say hi to her parents and friends and I will get to endure the -25 temperatures:shock:

Leslie, you bring up an important point and one I have thought of regarding Kiev women and Kansas.

I am not from here, I was raised in Chicago and a city person by nature.    Although I will move in 3.5 years when my son graduated from high school (Back to San Antonio or to Las Vegas) I still have to ask will a city girl like it in Kansas?   I think the answer to this is only becasue of my lifestyle.   I have two kidless weekends a month.   I almost always go to Europe/Canada one weekend and to Las Vegas the other.   (occasionally I throw in a San Antonio or Key West trip).    So Kansas is actually a nice place to Relax between travels.    All things to consider.  I think if  Kiev girl were to move here forever, she would miss the lifestyle.   But then again, there are some very nice things about Wichita, including NO rush hour traffic, cheap prices and some pretty good people.  I have also learned that no matter where I go I have to take myself with me, so the real issues is not where I am by do I like myself....

You are correct though, I have learned EXACTLY what I want, and I am NOT in  hurry...   I have no idea how guys with a real job do this!!!!

I have also learned the third point when to move on.  I have always bee a pushover when it came to ladies, giving Lily 100 Gryvnas in Yalta and telling her "Poka" and to find her own ride home, was a turning point in my relationship skills.   Since then I have dated A LOT of women, and when I learn the match isn't perfect, I move on quickly now....
I am willing o comromise--  but I will never "settle" for someone.

Richard,

You sound like a man with his act together.  No woman in her right mind would kick about Kansas with your trip schedule for the two weekends a month!  Besides she would only have to tolerate it for a few more years any way.  I am also impressed that you have made your child one of  your priorities.:clapping:

My kids are why I live in this hellhole.   My x moved here 11 years ago in the middle of the night when I was out of own on business-   her family is from here.   So, much to her dismay, I move a few blocks away.   She got remaried and moved again 3 miles away, I bought another house a few blocks away.   Now my kids are with me 70% of the time and are number one priority.      We actually get along now, but I can't wait to get back to civilization!

BTW--   American Airlines has upgraded me on BOTH transatlantic segments to Business class.   I LOVE being Platinum!!!!!  I should arrive i Kiev rested and happy!  Only 48 Hours to departure!

Last night I emailed Brett at kievconnections.com an intro letter and some pictures, along with a list of women I would be happy to meet.   Focusing on the 30 year old age group, with a kid (to mesh with my lifestyle).   I have not heard back from them, but assume I will, as this was Brett's suggestion.

Hey Richard I too look forward to your T/R.
I remember way back when... reading your first one, that was one of the first T/R's I read. I expect to be in Ukraine in about 4 weeks. I'll be going to Crimea (no yachts) and out west.

UPDATE:  I cancelled my trip.

I got a crisis with my son, its ZERO degrees in Kiev, my grandmother fell in the bathtub andI just don't think I will have fun on a six day trip to Kiev in January with all this other stress.  Then to top it of I started to worry about my visa (I have a five year business visa) but those fears were non-existant so i knew I was looking for any reson to cancel when I started to worry about that-   especially sincce you do't even need a visa to go!

Last minute changes bite!   American will keep $200 but I will be happy.    This is the second trip I have cancelled in the past year.

By the way, school called me today.   My son got suspended for 5 days (lives with me so that made last minute plans for leaving for 6 days more difficult).    Seems someone called someone 'fag', he spit on a kids sandwich, kid got mad, next day kid sprayed my son with ketchup, typical freshman B.S.  Today my son walked down the hall and took a cheap shot at the guy.    They call cops, make it a federal offence and suspend him for 5 days.

My son is NOT a trouble maker nor usually aggressive,   Just adolescent B.S. and this is the FIRST time.   Back in my day though if a kid took a cheap shot, the teacher would have just held my hands behind my back and let the other kid take a free shot.     Now it's a federal offence, cops and all.    Very wierd world we live in where a freshman fight becomes "an aggressive display of antisocial berhavior, with features of intermittent explove disorder, and the need to engage in a legal process."

My son was wrong and will be punished, but we have really over therapized and politically correctoed this country.....

Richard,

Sorry about the trip, dude.

BTW, have you read; "One Nation Under Therapy. How the Helping Culture is Eroding Self-Reliance" by  Christina Hoff Sommers and Sally Satel?  I haven't read it yet,  but all the reviews are interesting, as soon the local libary gets a  copy I'll check it out.

Of course it's all very right wing stuff, not a very liberal look at our culture.

Richard, does that mean Smoothoperator will be on his own ? Then I should not yet give Kiev the 'safe' signal ;)

Sorry to hear about your local problems, but I m sure you will make up the airtime later in the year. Don't worry about your son, better worry about the people that are teaching him.
