special translation bureau
« on: May 22, 2010, 04:48:30 PM »
hi guys,

I am bit confused about this entire process. Everytime I find one that seems interesting I get the.. 'I dont speak english and am using the "special translation bureau"' line.

wtf?

this seems like a huge red flag to me. I would be completely surprised if these women can afford to pay "special translation bureau" and would seem more likely to me to be interpreted as "I work for scaming agency". Am I correct in being suss or is it common practice?

I never heard of a special translation bureau. Are you sure they dont mean an online translator? Are they asking for money for translation fees? Need a little more info.

It sounds like the prelude to a future letter from the "special translation bureau" telling you that the lady has exhausted her credit there and inviting you to cover the expense for the nice letter for you that they now have on hold ;D.

A very old scam strategy ;).

 Not asking for money... yet.

example:
"I don't speak English ... I'm using the special translation bureau to write you, it is comfortable because I can get Internet there and also chat."

Obviously you know about scams and know enough not to send money. I want to think she is telling you about an online translator she is using but never heard it called a "special translation bureau". Just keep chatting and if she asks for money for translation fees you will know what to do. What site did you meet these girls on?

russianeuro, doesnt feel like online translation, the letters suddenly got long and the language somewhat flowery.

no chance I am sending money to anyone :) been planning on visiting russia for a while, if I meet someone while I am there it will be a bonus.

If your chatting with her on Russianeuro she probably using some kind of translation program. I wouldnt worry about it at all, unless of course she asks for money. I would just ask her about it.

Ask her a number of direct questions on subjects that are out of the ordinary.
A very good chance they will not be answered.
