Quite often. Many of your more traditional AW still believe the way to a man's heart is through his stomach. Of course many of your feminazis believe the same thing but with a knife  :o
Never heard of it. The OP himself said that the first date had to be just coffee (not home). He is right is a way, then he wants her to cook on the first date and give the massage (or was everything  a joke?).
Ok, lets assume the first date needs to be the first date so....what? To follow "Russian rules" or "American"?
I am confused.
(Though I do agree about materialism of RW. Though are AW not materialistic?)

Some Guy,

I do understand what it means to put an empty bottle on the table, and various other Russian superstitions.  and I am seeing this from both sides, that's why I made the post, because I believe the previous posts have been primarily from the RW perspective.  and I do understand all of the various RW perceptions about a man needing to be able to take care of his family, etc.

I am giving the american perspective, that we don't always just burn money for the fun of it, we save some money for the future.

Good luck trying to explain that to your new Russian / Ukrainian date (for the most part).

You're wrong, Faux Pas.  I'm an unabashed feminazi, though not American.  So, I'll betray a feminazi  tactic.

My husband grew up with a Grandmother who was an expert cook, baker, and seamstress.  Honestly, no one could surpass her.  Every meal was four courses, with desserts such as napoleans and soufflés, all prepared on a budget and without modern conveniences including, for quite some time, refrigeration.  The local Jewish residents would always ask her to prepare stuffed pike for weddings, because no one could make this the way she did.

While I am a good cook, I knew I'd never be close to her standards.  So, I told my husband "Honey, I will be working long hours, and will have limited time.  You choose in which room you wish me to become expert."  Well, he didn't choose the kitchen, and he's still happy.
After the fall of communism, the biggest mistake Boris Yeltsin's regime made was not to disband the KGB altogether. Instead it changed its name to the FSB and, to many observers, morphed into a gangster organisation, eventually headed by master criminal Vladimir Putin. - Gerard Batten

Brad, I don't think anybody here  doesn't understand this "American perspective", but
could we make ourselves clear- are we talking of the philosophy of life or dating RW?

Brad,

I am curious, how did you find these women? What are the criteria that you use when looking? Again, I never took my wife to a fancy restaurant when dating and she never expected it or demanded it either. If anything, she has taught me much about frugality, and yes Ranetka she is extremely attractive as well as frugal. So, I must wonder what it is that you are doing that is leading you to the wrong kind of women.

my point is that a russian woman respects her american date, she will realize that he was generous with both his time and his money to travel so far and to spend so much getting there, that she will not expect extravagant dinner dates on a first date
I guess this generous American transported his own body  because he wanted a date, not so? He did her a favor and came over? Or what?
You could stay in the US and save money.

Misha,

some people on this post think I have been so unlucky, but if you read the entire post you will see that I state that I have actually been pretty fortunate, because apparently I did ask the right questions upfront.  I have only been to see one lady (WOVO), and she invited me to stay with her in her apartment.  she was happy to see me when I arrived, and she had some food waiting for me at her apartment.  we are still in contact, although I am not sure if she is the ONE for me or not, as we did have some problems, which at this point are private.  I only started the post as a general discussion about "greed", based on what has happened to a lot of american men who went to see women, who only turned out to be scammers or pro daters looking to be wined and dined, etc.

Doll,

for one thing, I asked her if she likes to cook.  she responded that she would cook for me "with pleasure", and she did.  I agree with the saying, that the way to a mans heart is through his stomach.

PS.  a lot of American women are extremely greedy, and they cannot or will not cook on top of it.  that is why I am attracted to Ukrainian women from small towns, because I think many of them have the traditional values which most american women are now lacking.

Then my husband is either not a man or he has no stomach  :D
I like when men are good eater but wouldn't cook on the first date. Hope he is not looking for a line cook  :D
Anyway, we understand, Brad, that you're a good eater

Guys, I am dreaming of a husband who would eat what I cook. Not this one  :D
So I mostly cook for my son. J. is not a good eater at all.
If I divorce this one and date my first question will be if he is a good eater. If not- next

Doll,

why stay in the USA and save money, when I can experience all of the wonderful Russian/Ukrainian superstitions and culture, as well as see history and architecture of a different place, as well as meet the buxom fine curvy woman who I met, with all of her funny and unique behaviors?  I like to travel, and I prefer european women to american women.

Hmmmmm... trying to be nice here.... I think a lot of it is how a person cooks.  No insult intended, I have never had your cooking.  Just a thought.   ;D

And for the record, I eat very little, even of my own cooking.  And I like it!

Forgot to say that if I get divorced and think of another husband he will have to eat everything, eat Russian (Mexican, Chinese, Japanese) food and say thank you every time.
I am not kidding.

Brad,

I think there's the problem.  If people go only by your first post, it wasn't opened as a discussion on the differences of the words greedy, stingy, or similar.  It read like an all out attack, instead, while there are people that can easily enough give counterexamples to your first post.  Especially now that they're annoyed by reading the first post.  :o

The story has sort of changed since your original post, but I'm not sure where it's headed now.  ???
If your real intent on the original post was to have a calm discussion, it might be something to think about, how poor choice of words managed to immediately put people from all over the world into fighting mode, or misinterpretation at the very least, and apply that lesson when communicating with someone without a common native language.

If the intent was to start a not as friendly debate, ok, success - you've stirred the pot across the borders of several countries.  >:(

I think far too many generalizations are attributed to culture instead of the people involved, myself.  But hey, maybe I'm nuts, a Fat American, and let us not forget greedy. ;D
