Russia - Tourist Visa Registration
« on: June 16, 2010, 07:21:27 AM »
I don't have time right now to search the archives - but seek a quick opinion or two
regarding current tourist visa registration...

I'm looking at gotorussia(dot)net's online visa application, and they have an optional
"registration service" fee of $60 - is this likely money wasted ?

I won't be in Moscow long enough to have to register there...  we are landing and
almost immediately departing by train to my wife's hometown.

Thanks.

I would suggest not using their registration service if traveling beyond Moscow or Peter. I always use their convenient service when flying to the capitals, but never when traveling to Siberia. My lady and I have found that it's not very difficult for a resident to register you and it costs less. I don't believe GTR has offices or affiliates beyond Moscow or Piter so you will probably be throwing your money away.

Vaughn, if I remember correctly you have 3 days to register anyway. I would suggest you wait until you get to (Yoshkar?) and let your wife do it at the post office. Cost with copies and all is less than 10 bucks.

Vaughn, FP is correct, you have 72 hours to register and this does not include weekends or holidays. I've never registered in Moscow if I was just transitting through to another location and never had a problem.

You need to register within 3 days of entering the country. If you do it at post officeor yo it will be cheaper yes. But if you don't speak any Russian it can be difficult. The agencies do it for you for about $50 yes.
