sponsorship for stepson age 19

My stepson wants to move to another state, to be with his girlfriend. He hopes to enroll in the Community College there. He has a 10 year green card. Does my sponsorship with him end at any point before he decides to become a US citizen? Can his girlfriend take over this duty if she is over age 21 and living in the same city?

Nope.

Theoretically, the girlfriend could file her own I-864A if the boy is living with her and for some reason she wanted to take on a support obligation voluntarily. But that would not eliminate your own contractual responsibility for support; the liability is "joint and several." You're on the hook for the duration.

Unless he's a bum, if he is living independently, he's not going to demand money from you anyway.

I just wanted to know if it is ok to let him move out of state.
He will have a medical insurance card in case he needs to see a doctor.
If he has any problems it will most likely be me he will be calling.
At age 19 anything can happen and from Baltimore to South Carolina is not a short drive.
