My wife wants her son to work if at all possible.

Has anyone filed an EAD for a 15 year old?

Apparently he can get a part-time job at our local grocery store.

My stepdaughter began working part-time as a restaurant hostess at 16, although she could have found employment at 15 in certain retail stores here. She needed no EAD, just a Social Security card. You might want to check with his school - see if the school district has any requirements for GPA.

As stepfathers of teenagers, you and I ought to talk one evening....

Actually, for those not wishing to go the ITIN route, an EAD can be filed for a K-2 minor of ANY age, for the sole purpose of procuring a S.S.#. USCIS encourages it (and why wouldn't they at $175 a pop). As far as getting a job, you need to check your state/local child labor laws, but I *think* most states allow work at 15.

SOC, its a ROYAL pain in the ass in MD to have a job under the age of 16.  You can legally work at 14, but until 16, most jobs you cant legally hold in the state.  For example, you can not touch anything mechanical ( I was a carpenters apprentice for the summers from 14-18 years old and not being allowed to tough powertools was a major issue).  That includes cash registers.  Unless its a job as a stocker, or a bagger, I dont think there is much he can do.  I would also say that it is a bad idea IMO to work during the school year, as there are few hours that they can legally work (I think only 14 hours per week in MD but dont quote me).  And they have to be during very specific hours during specific days.  Until hes 16 I think its more trouble then its worth.  What I recommend, is if there is a major reason for him to work, wait until the summer.  Not only is there more jobs available, but it is when its not going to affect school.

Just my 2 cents.
