I don't think that is quite correct, how would you explain my receiving a letter through EM (see http://www.russianwomendiscussion.com/index.php?topic=12237.msg240389#msg240389 upthread), and others before it :-\? Unless they actually were from transvestites ;D.

Yes, Lily, I too have received several unsolicited letters from women on EM ...
So they MUST be able to write men SOMEHOW ...

Kevin

Sorry, I apparently did not make myself clear. A woman is still able to write to men, but to my knowledge, men have to pay extra in order to open and read her letter, or, alternatively, he wouldn't be able even to open it and just sent her 'no'?

Women do not have to pay anything in order to open and read letters from men. With my eventually paid membership, I wanted to be put in the very same position. I wanted the men open my letters for free as soon as I am a paid member. Would it make any difference for EM from whom to get the pay, wouldn't it?

No, you wouldn't think so, would you?

Here's how it works for me on EM, as a $99 (for three months) "Gold Member" ...

When (if!) I get an unsolicited letter from a "new woman", I have three choices:
ignore/delete it; send a "Polite NO Response" (the wording of it comes from EM);
or spend one "credit" to actually open and read the letter, after which all further
correspondence to/from that "new contact" is free ...

The "Polite NO Response" doesn't cost anything, but you're sending it WITHOUT
knowing the contents of the received letter -- or, for that matter, the reply itself ...

Hope this helps?  :)

creative use of animated emoticons throughout this intro of yours!!!  :)   And ALSO on
your very lovely and winning SMILE!!!  :)

Kevin

Maybe you should send her a PM and get her number before someone gets the water hose on you?  ;D

Kind of silly isn't it?  I mean to me it plays into the "poor Russian girl" marketing concept of all marriage oriented sites.

Lily,
your quote above sounds very metaphorical  :D especially after some politicians: "vote for me because I don't wear high heels!" Sorry for off topic.

Lily, the arrangement that EM uses is not based on credits, but on 'bodies' ;D (see attachment for current conditions).

- Gold membership: 1-50 women over 3-6-12 months.
- Platinum membership: unlimited women over 3-6-12 months.

A substantial difference is the possibility for Platinum men to obtain EM women's direct email address, which implies that Gold men have their EM mails censored to prevent that, and probably EM women's too if they try to pass it over to these underdogs. The pariah Silver (free) members can only send EOIs :(.

Women cannot have any 'credits' :(
What would you need them for :o? EM women interact with EM men for free:
Quote
"Email me"
When you press the button "Email me", you are sending an email through our website's messaging system. The message will arrive into the lady's mailbox on our site. The lady receives a notification to her email address that there is a message for her waiting on our site. She can read your message with one click of mouse and answer it. Answering emails is free for women.
As I said before, in addition to 'answering' EM emails from men, 'sending' initial EM emails to men must also be free, even to pariahs like me ;).
Quote
"Send 'Expression of Interest' message"
When you send 'Expression of Interest', the lady receives a notification to her direct email address that there is somebody interested in her. She can click on the link in this message and view your profile. The lady can also see your 'Expression of Interest' message when she logs into her account. Answering 'Expression of Interest' messages is free for women. Once she viewed your profile, she should answer whether she is interested in hearing from you. Once a lady answered your 'Expression of Interest' message, you will receive an email notification. The answer will be "Interested" or "Not interested". If a lady is interested, you can then either email her through the website or get lady's direct address.

Not so, Sandro, not so ... I know of what I speak here, being a bona fide "Gold Member" ...

The EM arrangement IS based on "credits", with one "credit" needed to send unlimited letters to one new "body" ...

And the deal that *I* got -- which may have been a promotion when they were switching systems -- was for 100 credits, not 50 ...

In any case, women HAVE been able to send me their direct e-mail addresses ... (But I'm not sure yet about the OTHER direction) ...

High school "do a sum" : "How much extra "credits" do you need to have excess to one more new "body" if now you have excess to 50 "bodies" per month with unlimited expressions of interest?"

Well, I'm not entirely sure what you're asking, OlgaH, but I'm pretty sure that it's not 50 "bodies" PER MONTH ...

I think my (100) "contact credits" are probably for the THREE months for which I paid $99?

Can someone else answer OlgaH's question for "extra credit"?  ;D

newkt, an answer is not needed  :D

100 contact credits = $99. Is it only for "new bodies" or together with the"old bodies"? For example you contacted a "body" and they took one credit...  will they take another credit again of your 99 credits when you contact the same "body" second time?

What would you need them for :o? EM women interact with EM men for free:As I said before, in addition to 'answering' EM emails from men, 'sending' initial EM emails to men must also be free, even to pariahs like me ;).

Because I was tired of writing and sending EOIs into nowhere, where a number of interesting men apparently disregarded my messages. My assumption was that they only want to spend their credits on someone who definitely attracts them, and not on some 'wow-cute- but-not-sure-whether-she's-right' s' like Lily.

What I wanted is to give the men an opportunity to uninhibitedly read my letters, irrespectively of them being Silver members. Somehow I thought that in case they would be able to read my individualized letters, they 'd be more inclined to try their chances on me. Just think of a fine Silver person who got my letter in his mailbox while he just tries the waters and is a Silver. He cannot read my letter, albeit he may want to read it, right? I see that EM wants to receive some money from people who want to interact with each other, and if EM would get this money from Lily and not from Joe the Silver, what would be the difference for EM?

This is my experience. When looking for a wife, looks were important. I would wager this is true for most men. If you receive a long letter from a woman that you do not find attractive, you then feel as if you have to write her a reply, which puts you in the awkward position of explaining that you are not interested. Even if you find her attractive, you will likely wonder if she is desperate. An expression of interest is much better as it is easier to ignore if you are not interested and IMHO does not make the woman come across as needy. A wink or a short message that do not necessitate a reply, shows that she is interested, but still leaves it up to the guy to decide to pursue or not.

Misha is right that an EOI is easy to ignore than an individualized letter. So men would be put in an awkward position of telling that you are not interested. But, are the women put in the same position again and again, aren't they? See the good standard of EM :(

As far as looking desperate is concerned, my opinion would be that desperation is not mere in the fact that you take initiative, but in the manner to express yourself, in the posture, words and expressions, in the general level of personality. If we assume that taking initiative is equal to being desperate, this way we can go really far guys :) The mere fact that we are on a dating site would portray all of us as desperate, right?  :-\

However, if a woman writes to the man something that messages him 'look, I am terrific, you are terrific and here is why, how about some correspondence and webcamming and we'll see where it leads'. Wouldn't you want to get letters where someone writes good things about yourself?

Good points all, Lily -- although I have NO idea why "interesting men" would disregard YOUR messages ... :)

It's a cryin' shame that EM did away with the "$1 per new contact, and then unlimited exchange" ...
Because that was a good way for a Silver Member to "try the waters" and then read YOUR letters
to him at NO "real" expense ... I know that that old payment plan was working for ME at the time ...

No idea why they wouldn't Kevin. Everyone apparently has their own reasons. Also, some of them may in fact have been Silvers thus unable to reply in a meaningful way but still not wanting to sent a No.

That may be the explanation, you won't find ANY mention of credits on their site now.

Apparently, the switch also involved removing the convenient alternative of paying $15 (IIRC) for unlimited EM mails to 1 body that I, too, had used occasionally in the past to read/answer 1st letters/EOIs  from potentially interesting ladies.

If I was interested, I would have written to her  ;) I would be working under the assumption that attractive women would be getting lots of messages already and would wonder why such a woman would have to send more than a smiley or a very short message (i.e. a sentence or two).

Of course it has been several years ago now but IIRC, there were 50 contacts inside of a 6 month membership window for $149 bucks. There were no "credits" type system at EMs. You paid your $149 you could open a letter from a lady and that constituted a "contact" and you could do that 50 times. After you used a contact on a lady once you could freely communicate with her on EMs. If memory serves, I renewed once and didn't use all of my remaining contacts or membership the second time. That was the "Gold" membership then and they had a Platinum membership where contact was unlimited and they'd even send you all the new profiles as they joined and wait 2 weeks before posting them on the site.

Maybe so, Sandro, maybe so ...

BTW, does anyone know what's become of LANA??  "Her" intro thread -- which was first
hijacked by ME -- seems to have mutated into a discussion about EM's payment system ...  :-X
