Looking for friends for Wife's son
« on: October 03, 2010, 08:01:47 AM »
My wife's son arrived last week. Vitaliy is 20 becoming 21 in a month. I am looking for some friends for him perhaps by phone or internet if they live far from New York, where he can start to develop relationships. Anyone have children in this age range that would like to meet him? Thanks. BTW. He speaks no english so everything would be in the Russian Language.

Viking I really wouldn't worry too much about your stepson.  Get him enrolled in English language classes as soon as possible would be an excellent idea.  Assuming you live in NYC or even elsewhere in the state, take him on several sightseeing tours of the area.  When my wife's younger relatives came to visit us in London I was always worried that they wouldn't be able to enjoy the city because they spoke no English but London has a large Russian community, they rarely lacked for anything to do and after all London is one of the most popular cities in the world to visit.  NYC is also a popular destination I understand.  It is my understanding that NYC and New York state also have a very large Russian community.

I'm sure your wife has found some places and events in the area that are Russian language friendly.  Just googling Russian community and New York City I found dozens of events that are Russian in nature, for example:

http://www.russianny.com/

With access to a computer, the Internet and perhaps a good map he really should have no trouble finding many things to do in the Russian community.  He should also learn to get around on his own even without knowledge of English.

There are so many Russians in NY that one doesn't even have to learn English to live there. Your step son is not a child. He's gonna be 21 in a month and will be dating Russian girlies before you know it. I would just watch out that he doesn't hook up with the wrong crowd. But hook up, he will in a matter of days.
