Honeymooning in Sharm el Sheikh

Alla and I are thinking about honeymooning for a week in Sharm el Sheikh, Egypt.  I was just curious if anyone else had spent any time there and what their thoughts were.

check out Tunis, Tunisia. It's on the med and a nice alternative. You can google it and do your research.

 Actually the last bombing (which is the one you refer to)  was in July, 2005 and prior to that October, 2004.  Maybe not "risk free", but describing it as a place suicide bombers love might be a bit of an exageration.

As far as Tunis or the Mediteranean, these would be fine except for the weather.  We would be traveling at the end of February and were looking for some warm to hot weather.

If you want to go to north africa, definitely choose marrocco. This is the friendest place for occidental people ...

But if you are looking for sun .. south of spain is great too

Phil, dozens more attacks have been foiled by the Israeli Mossad and the Egyptian security on Sharm. Apart from Tunisia you can also consider Turkey or Cyprus.

Sharm is a nice place with beautiful beaches and water.  But not much to do there except the water.  Hgurda, further south, has a bit more to see with Valley of Kings, Luxor, the Aswan dam, etc.

The south of Turkey . . .  Antalya, et al is also to be considered along with Cyprus.

But all of these places will be a bit problematic in February.  FSU people can get into Thailand without prior visa, so that would be the place to think about for that time of year.  There are regular tour packages there from Moscow, Kyiv, etc.  May cost about $200-400 more per person than Egypt and Turkey however, due to much longer flight time.

I agree, Thailand is great for a Honeymoon.  Hard to beat the beaches and beauty at a low price.  Tanya and I have been to Cyprus, Turkey, Egypt, Thailand.  Thailand is the best place and value for the money.  Plus friendly to all and no visa problems.  May even be able to hop over to Cambodia, Laos, or Vietnam from there.  Lots of nice but inexpensive hotels in Thailand and you can eat for a few dollars a meal.  Our favorite is Genki Sushi.  We pig out for about $20!  And good kimchee too!  Best hotel I have found in my may travels there in Bangkok is the Royal River Hotel.  Book online for max savings.  2 or 3 days in Bangkok is enough, then head to the remote islands or the mountains in the north.  Weather is very good this time of year.  Pleasent journeys.

Lilya just returned from an 11-day trip to Sharm with a girlfriend (I  cannot travel at the moment,) and she had a great time...we are  planning a return visit in November.
