Cellular Internet in Ukraine
« on: January 28, 2011, 11:36:53 AM »
The Kyiv Post newspaper just released their annual "Best of Kyiv" issue. In it, they list the best cellular Internet service provider as MTS--which has no monthly contract and offers either payment by the megabyte or unlimited access for 8 griven per day, according to their article (right at $1 daily).

For those going to Ukraine who want cellular Internet access, MTS cellular modem dongles are widely available in many cellular telephone stores here.

The article is at http://www.kyivpost.com/news/city/detail/95733/

(For straight mobile phone service, they suggest the largest carrier, Kyivstar).

Yep, MTS compared to Kievstar is like comparing Sprint with Verizon. Last time there I got two services; MTS and Kievstar. Whenever I was downtown I used MTS, which is a lot cheaper than Kievstar. Problem with MTS was I got no reception whenever I was at the house. No problem with Kievstar.

Also, when I say cheaper, we are talking grivnas. To me the difference is small change, however, I would leave the SIMs with my outlaws fully charged ($50 each) before departing for the US. It does make a difference for them.
