Best and worst things about Kyiv from people who live there
« on: January 28, 2011, 02:17:56 PM »

I found some things very interesting:

a) Even the locals dislike it that people are rude, unsmiling and glum looking, and dressed in black.

b) Even the locals now understand that service is terrible, that the country is dirty, that smoking is disgusting, that clerks asking customers to help make change is ridiculous, etc.

c) Even the local women appreciate the beauty of other local women, their high heels and short skirts.

Most all of the comments can apply to all of Ukraine, except those that mention particular streets, sights, etc.
A beautiful woman is pleasant to look at, but it is easier to live with a pleasant acting one.

No surprises really. Those folks here and on other forums who insist on sugar-coating and denying everything are blowing smoke for the most part.

Some of the comments are out of perspective. My wife cannot believe the public parks and facilities we have in the US and could not recall anything comparable in the USSR so the positives on the parks are relative. The beggars and homeless people there are nothing compared to some places I have been in the US so again these remarks are relative to Kyiv vs. other areas in their experience.

All in all, a good indication and verification of what several here have attempted to describe about conditions in UA.
Pick and choose carefully among the advice offered and consider the source carefully. PM, Skype or email if you care to chat or discuss
