People say there are gigantic lines to get into DME from the street these days, because of the new security rules and only 2 entrances being open (both with 1 by 1 person metal detector and people regularily forgetting to get everything out of their pockets, that causes gigantic lines), so better plan for that if you are having a lay over of only a few hours, that it may actually take like an hour just to get inside the building on the way back.

SVO is the worst airport I have been in , would avoid it at all cost , especially  since  Domodedovo  is there and it's nice and clean
You clearly have not seen airports in other russian cities. SVO is very good compared to them :) I also prefer SVO to DME, cuz its a lot closer to the city than DME and cuz depending on where you are driving from/to in Moscow it may save you several hours traffic jams to pick the airport accordingly. I mean, if your departure/arrival point within Moscow is on the north, then it's way better to take SVO, if departure/arrival is south, then better DME, otherwise you'll spend many hours in traffic just getting from an airport to the opposite end of the city. I remember trips to DME lasting 4-5 hours from the north in rush hour (whereas SVO is AT the north, so a lot closer, would be only 1-2 hr max)

Of course if you take the train to either of them, then you won't be sitting in traffic jams at all  :D

SVO is alright and the new terminal is quite nice. Not sure when the last time you were there, but it's not bad at all with some of the changes they've made. Maybe you haven't heard of some of the problems that have happened at DME lately and I'm not just talking about the terrorist attack. And it's no cleaner than SVO, just newer.

He's got a good valued flight and there shouldn't be any problems as SVO is clean, very easy to navigate, change money, and get to any point in and around Moscow and go from there. I use SVO for the majority of my trips and have absolutely no problems doing so. Neither will he.
I haven't used SVO for international, only for domestic, and it is crap to get around! There are free transfers by bus from the AeroExpress terminal (quite a long walk from the platform to the bus, but well-signposted) to domestic, but they take 20 minutes and that's where easy ends.  You have to go through a scanner to get into the building and through another one before you get to the check-in counters!  To be fair I've never had a problem actually checking in for a flight, but coming back is a different story.

Luggage has taken anything from no time (waiting when I got into baggage claim) to 45 minutes, nearly causing me to miss my next flight.  Getting back to the AeroExpress is also a pain - there used to be free buses but, because you are outside the secure zone once you collect your luggage, these have given way to marshrutki - 60 roubles!  Once you're back at Terminal F I agree - it's easy from there, but a lot of people looking for a bride are not going to restrict themselves to Moscow.  For me DME, despite the bomb, is a far superior airport - everything is in the same building for a start, and the facilities are much better.  At SVO domestic, for example, the toilets are down a flight of stairs - including the disabled toilet!  Good luck trying to get a wheelchair down there, with no ramp. :wallbash:

I'm talking about SVOII since hes coming out from Detroit/New York not domestic from Moscow as he didn't mention flying out of there. SVOII is fine, NO problem navigating it. He has IMO his best option as far as airline, convenience, time and price from his location to Moscow. Hopefully we're clear now.

Oh and yes S7 has gotten better, but what only 3 crashes during a 5 year period. They had no choice.

I never disputed that - I was just offering my two cents' worth about the domestic side.  As I posted earlier, not everyone on this quest stops when they get to Moscow.

One shot down, one blown up by a terrorist bomb - hardly the airline's fault!  Would you have made the same comment about Pan Am?  I knew people who died in the Air New Zealand crash in Antarctica, but it doesn't stop me flying with our national airline.

Just returned from Moscow. SVO got several brand spanking new terminals, modern, shiny and spacious (spacious compared to old SVO), very nice. They still seem use the old terminal as well, but at least aeroflot, and maybe some other companies use the new terminals. Don't know about domestic flights though :)

Planning my second trip, found a flight on aeroflot, for $645 non-stop from New York.  Is Aeroflot a good airline?  How is the service, etc.?  I'll be flying in may or june.

I think you should try www.directflights.com
